The Carabao and the Shell
One very hot day, when a carabao went into the river
to bathe, he met a shell, and they began talking
together.
"You are very slow," said the carabao to the shell.
"Oh, no," replied the shell. "I can beat you in a race."
"Then let us try and see," said the carabao. So they
went out on the bank and started to run.
After the carabao had gone a long distance he
stopped and called, "Shell!"

And another shell lying by the river answered, "Here I
am!"
Then the carabao, thinking that it was the same shell with
which he was racing, ran on.
By and by he stopped again and called, "Shell!"
And another shell answered, "Here I am!"
The carabao was surprised that the shell could keep up
with him. But he ran on and on, and every time he
stopped to call, another shell answered him. But he was
determined that the shell should not beat him, so he ran
until he dropped dead.

A Day Visit to Yogyakarta
Juan Salman
Last week, I went with my family to Yogyakarta, which is
well-known throughout Indonesia for its art and culture and
has a famous museum.
We woke up early in the morning. My father prepared
the car in the garage while mother was preparing food for
breakfast and some snacks for us. My sister and I packed
some clothes. After everything was ready and we had our
breakfast, we left the house at six o'clock. My father drove
the car. My mother sat beside him. My sister and I sat in the
back seats
9. Component 4A. Reading the text (Text 2)
It was about nine o’clock when we arrived at
Yogyakarta. First of all, we visited our uncle. We stayed there
for an hour. Then we went to Parangtritis beach. We got
there at eleven o'clock. There were a lot of tourists because it
was a holiday. My parents watched us playing with sand in
the beach. We did not swim and take a bath since the waves
were rough. Two hours later, after having lunch, we went on
our picnic to the museum and Malioboro shopping center.
We spent three hours in each place.
We drove back to Semarang at seven o'clock and
arrived home at ten. We were tired but happy.
