INTRODUCTION
• Every living being is born, develops, grows old and
dies. This is the truth. Ageing is a natural
phenomenon. It is an inevitable process. We all have
to be old one day. It is a process of gradual change
in physical appearance and mental situation that
causes a person to grow old. As the birth is an
event and the pregnancy a process of it, old age is
an event and ageing is its process. Different
countries of the world term a person as old, after
crossing certain age limit, depending on prevailing
socio-cultural norms and values. Most of the
countries of the world have declared sixty years of
age while it is sixty-five in Nepal. Besides, wrinkled
face, grey hair, loosed teeth, weak condition of
sense are other characteristics features of old age.

INT …
• The senior citizens have to cope with various
expectations on the part of younger generations
concerning example of happy and peaceful life
and the way to prepare themselves to enter the
next world. Old age is the age of long and wide
world and life experience. The elderly people
experience many mental problems. Some are;
• agitation (anxiety) due to health problems
• sorrows caused by departure from beloved ones
or things

next life.

with the senior citizens, it is important for
us to keep in mind that one day, we too
will be old. We too will lose the strength,
vigour (strength) and capacity that we
have at present.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THE ELDERLY?
• Planning ahead can help solve some of the issues
before the situation becomes a last-minute of
sudden illness or injury.
• Using available technology, we need to make the
home safe for elderly people and anticipate (expect)
the expenses of providing care in advance.
• Making the home safer by installing anti-scald
devices to protect sensitive older skin.
• Keeping your loved ones active towards elderly
people, exercise can help protect older people from
disease and reduce their functional age by 10 or 15
years. It can even result in big health benefits for
those who have been sedentary for many years. It
can delay the need for care and keep them away
form disease for longer.

health. If he/she has pains or medical issues, take tem
to a doctor immediately. If the pains/medical issues

to hospital and see what could be done for him/her
right way.
• Watching for signs of weakness, extra forgetfulness,
lack of direction or other unsteadiness is an essence.
So we can support mentally, socially and emotionally
as if they need.
• The elderly people are particularly vulnerable to scam
so make sure to discuss these and protect them.

them to feel better an maintain strong family
