Landscape artists depict rural and urban scenery through their artwork. A landscape painting shows natural surroundings like mountains, hills, forests, and valleys. The space in a landscape drawing is divided into the foreground, middle ground, and background to show distance and depth. Artists use techniques like overlapping objects and varying their sizes to illustrate which areas are closer or farther away. They also make use of positive space, which is occupied by objects, and negative space, which is the space between and around objects.
