A landscape drawing depicts natural scenery such as mountains, hills, forests and valleys. It shows an expanse of space divided into three parts - the foreground at the bottom which is closest, the middle ground between the foreground and background, and the background which is farthest. Artists convey depth and distance in landscape drawings by overlapping objects, making those in front appear closer to the viewer through positive space occupied by objects and negative space between them.
