Watching this documentary was exceedingly intriguing and I would recommend it for others. A rock slide covered the original entrance creating a
time capsule to preserve the beautiful art work and the oldest paintings discovered. Learning the cave was perfectly sealed for thousands and
thousands of years brings up several questions and is simply fascinating. They described the paintings as fresh because it looked as if it was done just
yesterday but, there was something growing on them proving it was aged. There was also torch scrapings from about 28,000 years ago; scientists were

They believe humans did not live here but, I do not see why not. The protection of this cave and the endless canvas to continue what had been
started would have kept myself busy for many years. I would have loved to experience what others did while entering the cave. A man by the name
of John inspected the cave first and I have to say he is one lucky guy. Experiencing such beauty and history must have been one of the greatest
experiences he may have encountered. For this film no one was allowed to touch anything and remain on the two feet wide walkway to protect and
preserve everything. Even the stalagmites were built into the walkway to allow for growth and no damage would be done. Every year my family

Paleolithic, Neolithic, Greek and Roman art movements have seen many changes through the course of their time. These periods, have produced

Religious stories and scientific theories have tried for thousands of years to accurately date the formation of man. However, in the 1860s, a new art
was discovered that changed the view of human creation forever. This new insight was cave painting. Cave painting is a form of prehistoric art that

better that the art. In the earlier times of the paintings, fingers and soft clays created many of the paintings. The fine engravings were created later in
time, respectively, and are much more rare. Over time the art became more revolutionized and the artists began to mix colors with pestles and mortars.
They even went as far as using stencils and blowpipes to create different effects. Another supporting theory that the paintings were done consciously to

By comparing the two, clearly the shaft scene has is very simplistic and less detailed since it contains far less characters and contour lines. Exploring
the two cave's paintings gave me an in depth look at how prehistoric artists in France masterfully employ unique art perspectives in their artistic
endeavors. Depictions of animals are common to both the Lascaux and Chauvet Cave drawings which imply a grandiose appreciation for wildlife by
both cultures. (Web) In addition, another similarity present in both artworks is the abstract markings of figures and symbols indicative of both
traditions of the people in the Paleolithic time period. In the Chauvet painting, the contour lines are more refined and detailed as opposed to the
Lascaux paintings which are more simple and bold. Furthermore, the Lascaux paintings implement a multitude of vibrant colors such as red, yellow,
and orange while the majority of the Chau vet paintings lacked this quality in retrospect. By carbon dating, the time of the Chau vet painting is circa
27,000 years old while the Lascaux painting is circa 17,300 years old. I do believe that the Chau vet paintings are older since the majority are black in
color even though the detail is extensive.

The animals ranged from horses to rhinos, and even cave lions. The drawings were detailed enough to allow scientists to decipher the paintings and
learn what they were witnessing at that period of time. Along with the paintings of the animals, bones were found in the cave and that also revealed
more about the life in the cave other than just the cavemen and women. Using all of this information given to them, the scientists were able to learn not

In the movie Cave of the Forgotten Dreams, director Werner Herzog and a very small crew are given the opportunity to go to France and see
Chauvet Cave. While watching the start of this movie, I was very surprised to see that they were limited with how many people they could bring
into the cave. I have gone to a cave in South Dakota and they took hundreds of people in it at a time. So, seeing that I think they only had like five
crew members was very shocking. I was surprised though how many experts they had working on mapping the map and doing other tests on the
cave. I thought maybe, there would only be like two experts in at a time and not five or six. I also didn't know there was that many different experts
that all can work on the same thing at the same time. Also, while watching I was surprised to see the equipment that they had to use.I never really
thought about how the lights can affect the cave walls and the paintings.I was impressed that they filmed the movie in the cave with a non
professional movie camera, I did not know that there were other cameras that could work that well in the dark of a cave. In class and watching this
movie we find out that Chauvet Cave was discovered in December of 1994 when Christian Hillaire, Eliette Brunel–Deschamps and Jean–Marie
accidently found it, because they had felt a draft. In the introduction to the movie we find out that the cave sits next to this beautiful river named
Pont d'Arc. We later find out that it might be this river that feeds into the cave that brings some bones into it, such as golden eagle bones. I also
find out that the entrance that these hikers had found was actually not the true entrance. We find out that the actual entrance was covered when the
cave had collapsed in earlier times. I was really surprised that they were able to find the actual entrance. I thought since the cave had collapsed that

This particular dating method uses radiocarbon dating, however typing of Lascauxs' pigments suggests the material used in this cave was iron or
