Learning Design Process Three key phases to a learning design process: Profiling Phase LMQ1-3 Strategizing Phase LMQ 4 to 6 Variety of teaching/ learning strategies Ascertainment Phase LMQ7-8
The Profiling Phase Learning Management Questions 1 2 and 3
The LM Questions LMQ 1: What does my learner already know? Profiling/ Date Collection/ Analysis Prior learning experiences- formally Prior learning experiences- informally Current achievements levels Outcomes achieved to date
The LM Questions LMQ 2: Where does my learner need/ want to be? Outcomes are set…… Curriculum requirements (formal) Personal requirements, dreams, aspirations (informal) Hidden Curriculum (things the student should inadvertently learn)
The LM Questions LMQ 3: How does my learner best learn? Preferred learning styles Preferred learning environments Disabilities, Gifted & Talented Socialisation Multiple Intelligences
The Strategising Phase Learning Management Questions 4, 5 and 6
The LM Question LMQ 4: What resources do I have at my disposal? Budgets Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) Support staff (TA, SLP, GO, LST, Librarian) Mum/ Dad’s Classroom environments Equipment, resources, etc
The LM Questions LMQ5: What will constitute the learning journey? This is where a series of learning experiences (lessons) are developed, managed to support and facilitate the learner achieving pre-defined outcomes (from question 2)
The LM Questions LMQ 6: Who will do what? The formal learning environment is made up of many professional and paraprofessional people, not to mention various technological teaching/learning tools This question is about acknowledging that there are many people and things which can facilitate aspects of your learning program: and engaging them Not all are intentional or desirable!!!
The Ascertainment Phase Learning Management Questions 7 and 8
The LM Question LMQ 7: How will I check to see my learner has arrived? This is the phase where the Learning Manager decides what will constitute EVIDENCE of outcomes (from Q2) achieved Assessment needs to be valid and measure the desired learning outcomes Use of Authentic assessments builds learning engagement
The LM Questions LMQ 8: How will I inform my Learner and others about the learner’s progress? This is the reporting phase to parents, learners, school and other stakeholders.
Summation 8LMQs constitute the learning design process These questions are asked continuously and in a cyclic fashion Learning Management acknowledges there is a new world with new and challenging requirements……
