Boeing was founded in 1916 and initially produced seaplanes. It became a major manufacturer of military aircraft during World War 2. In the post-war era, Boeing introduced commercial jet airliners like the 707 and 737. Airbus was formed in 1970 by European aerospace companies to compete with Boeing. Both companies have adopted Lean manufacturing techniques pioneered by Toyota to improve efficiency and reduce costs, including implementing just-in-time processes, reducing waste, and improving workflow. These changes have significantly increased production rates while lowering inventory levels and costs.
