Leadership Style Throughout your career, you will work with many people who display differing leadership styles. As a nurse leader, it is imperative that you communicate well and get along with those whose leadership style does not align with your preferences. It is also important to understand your own leadership style, as this can prompt insight into how others relate to you and what skills you may need to develop as your leadership responsibilities grow. To prepare: Review the information in the Learning Resources, including the leadership styles identified in Chapter 2 of the course text. Bring to mind a leader in your organization or one with which you are familiar. Would you describe his or her style as authoritative, democratic, or laissez- faire ? Why? Which characteristics or approaches demonstrated by this person would you integrate into your own leadership style? Which ones would you prefer not to integrate? Balanced processing involves an open mind and an open heart. “Leaders described balanced processing as the ability to be open to feedback and diverse opinions, to analyze information objectively, and listen to those who have opposing views” (Alexander & Palan, 2018). Nurses must feel like they can talk to their leaders openly and honestly; they must feel heard and understood. Nurses look to their leaders to help them wade through the difficulties of the every day nurse life. Transparency involves honesty and commitment to nursing staff, and these characteristics drive trust between nurse and leader. The final quality, moral leadership, involves healthy ethics. Nurses look to their leaders to guide their behaviors and A healthy work environment is key to a positive work-life balance. Toxic work environments can lead to nurse burnout, negative behaviors, frequent call-offs, and dismissive attitudes towards patients. However, a positive work environment can have a wildly different impact on patient care. From the resources, I most identified with the authentic leadership model. This model expresses the following leadership characteristics: “self-awareness, relational transparency, internalized moral perspective, and balanced information processing” (Marshall & Broome, 2017). I like this model because I can identify with these characteristics, and I imagine it is the kind of leadership style that I would exude.
In a study on leadership styles and their impact on nurse’s perceptions of a positive work environment, there were several characteristics of leadership that correlated with positive nursing attitudes. Overall, the highest correlation between leadership styles and positive nursing attitudes was a relational leadership style. “The findings of this systematic review provide robust support that relational leadership versus task-focused leadership styles are linked to better nursing workforce outcomes and related organizational outcomes.” (Cummings, Tate, Lee, Wong, Paananen, Micaroni, & Chatterjee, 2018). Nurses are receptive to leaders who are genuine in nature. They want to feel that they are being led by someone who is honest and fair. Can I talk to this person and expect an honest response? Are they easy to talk to? Can I vent to this leader and feel heard and understood? These are important qualities of a relational leader.

Although it is helpful for any organization to delineate pathways of responsibility and authority in an organizational chart, the lived experience of these structures is most apparent through the inquiries and behaviors people share everyday.
In your own workplace, you may find yourself wondering, who should I turn to when I have a practice dilemma? or Where can I go to learn more about this issue? These questions speak to the intricacies of formal and informal organizational structure and leadership.

Conflict abounds in any workplace; it is a normal part of organizational life. Instead of avoiding or ignoring conflict, the role of the nurse manager is to coach employees through conflict situations and to exercise judgment on how and when to intervene. However, when interpersonal conflicts go unaddressed, employee morale and engagement–two factors that can seriously impact quality of patient care—will dwindle.

While raising two adolescent girls, this author is working on her Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner degree (PMHNP).
Psychiatric disorders within these professions are multifaceted and rising at an alarming rate. My most recent project is hosting a website for my non-profit organization, sharing my research and fundraising for mental health therapy for local MP and FRs; my efforts supported by their respective employers. During personal interactions, many have expressed to me that for psychological symptoms, they are directed to contact their respective employee assistance program (EAP). Unfortunately, combined with the already perceived stigma of seeking help, the true reluctance was the absence of an EAP clinician with first-hand experience in these unique occupations. These concerns significantly limit the number of “relatable” practitioners therefore, as a trusted partner, incorporating over 20 years of experience with MP and FRs, I will change this for all of us.

While raising two adolescent girls, this author is working on her Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner degree (PMHNP).
Psychiatric disorders within these professions are multifaceted and rising at an alarming rate. My most recent project is hosting a website for my non-profit organization, sharing my research and fundraising for mental health therapy for local MP and FRs; my efforts supported by their respective employers. During personal interactions, many have expressed to me that for psychological symptoms, they are directed to contact their respective employee assistance program (EAP). Unfortunately, combined with the already perceived stigma of seeking help, the true reluctance was the absence of an EAP clinician with first-hand experience in these unique occupations. These concerns significantly limit the number of “relatable” practitioners therefore, as a trusted partner, incorporating over 20 years of experience with MP and FRs, I will change this for all of us.

A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues, which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
Complications of wound healing like infection, hyperpigmentation of scar, contractures, and keloid formation.

This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. As a nurse leader, it is imperative that you communicate well and get along with those whose leadership style does not align with your preferences. It is also important to understand your own leadership style, as this can prompt insight into how others relate to you and what skills you may need to develop as your leadership responsibilities grow. To prepare: Review the information in the Learning Resources, including the leadership styles identified in Chapter 2 of the course text. Bring to mind a leader in your organization or one with which you are familiar. Would you describe his or her style as authoritative, democratic, or laissez- faire ? Why? Which characteristics or approaches demonstrated by this person would you integrate into your own leadership style? Which ones would you prefer not to integrate? Think about how this leader’s style and resulting interactions may impact health care quality and patient outcomes. By Day 3 Post a description of a leader, distinguishing his or her style as authoritative, democratic, or laissez- faire .
