List

Dr Mark Brookes MBE
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org
5. • We first started the Learning Disability and Autism Leaders’ List 5
years ago!
• For all of this time Learning Disability England and VODG have been
our partners.
• We started the list to share stories of people with learning disabilities
and autistic people.
• We want to show the world that we are doing
brilliant and important things too!
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org
6. • Since then we have celebrated nearly 150 Leaders!
• These are people and groups who have been taking a lead in their
lives.
• They are winners in the categories:
• Advocacy, policy and the media
• Local communities
• Sports, arts and entertainment
• Work and education
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org
7. • We know everybody deserves to be celebrated.
• This is why anybody with a learning disability and/or autism can
enter or be nominated.
• And everybody gets a certificate to celebrate!
• For those who win, we share their story nationally.
• This includes on our website, social media and with
newspapers, magazines and other websites
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org
8. • Some of our Leaders have been in The Guardian, Independent and
on Channel 5 News.
• Their stories have been seen by thousands of people!
• We also invite winners to join our special online celebration events,
where their story is shared with the audience.
• We also send winners a special celebration pack
and trophy.

12. Why we run the
Leaders’ List
Presented by
Gary Bourlet
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org
13. • We think more people with learning disabilities and autistic people
should be in the spotlight.
• We don’t think there are enough people like us in magazines and
newspapers, on the TV and radio or making important decisions.
• We think more people with learning disabilities and autistic people
should be involved in how the country is run.
• And we deserve more opportunities and equality.
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org
14. • We know that Dimensions, Learning Disability England and VODG
have a strong voice.
• We talk to lots of people and organisations, with people we support
and our members.
• And we wanted to be able to give more people the opportunity to talk
to those groups too!
• We also want people to know that what they are
doing is important and should be celebrated.
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org
15. • So we created the Leaders’ List to put the spotlight on people all
across the country who are taking a lead in their lives.
• We want to show the country and everybody in it that people with all
different learning disabilities and autistic people are part of their
communities.
• We want to show that we’re creative and hard
working.
• And that we have important things to say and do.
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org
16. • We want everybody to feel valued and know that they are important.
• Some winners decide to get involved in more of our campaigns.
• Some winners comment on topics in the news.
• And some winners come back to be judges for the
Leaders’ List.
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org
17. • So the Learning Disability and Autism Leaders’ List isn’t just a fun
celebration of people’s achievements.
• It is an opportunity for people to be represented.
• And it is an opportunity for people to campaign and comment on
important topics.
• The Learning Disability and Autism Leaders’ List is
all about people like you and me, taking a lead in
our lives!
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org
18. • Now you know all about the Leaders’ List and why we run it, thank
you for listening.
• Remember to send your questions using the instructions at the
bottom of the slide.
• Next we’re going to talk about how you can enter and nominate
people.
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org

for themselves or other people.

might advocate for yourself, some other people or
lots of other people. It’s all important.
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org
27. Local communities
This is for people who are involved in their local community.

help make the area better.
There is lots of things you can do to be part of your
local community.

self-employed, or if you are learning new things this could be the right
category for you.
You don’t have to work as part of a big company (but
you might) and you might be studying for a
qualification or just for interest, we want to hear
all about it.
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org
30. • When you have chosen your category, it’s time to start telling us your
story.
We will ask you to tell us about…
• The things that you have achieved: this is where you can brag!
Tell us about all your brilliant successes and what you have done
to achieve them.
• The challenges you have overcome: this is important so we
understand how important your achievements
are to you and your journey.

31. • How you feel about what you have done: are you proud?
Excited? Motivated? Ready to do even more? Ready to take a
well earned break, perhaps? Share your feelings and we can get
to know you even more.
• What things people have said about you and what you have
done: are they proud of you?! (I’m sure they are), have you made
a difference in their lives? Taking a lead in your life will always
have an impact on other people and it’s important we understand
this too.
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org
32. • You also have the option to share some photos, videos and
documents with us.

touch and we can help.
• It also means you can show us the wonderful
photos, videos and resources you have been
involved in.
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org
33. • Next we will ask if you would like to tell us a bit about yourself. This
is so the judges can get to know you as a person and understand
what your achievements mean to you.
• This is also the part of the form you can use to tell us about your
learning disability, neurodiversity, disability
and any other information to help us understand
you.
• You don’t have to tell us anything you don’t want
to.
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org
34. • You’ve done it! It’s time to submit your entry or nomination.
• When you have submitted it we will start to create your personalised
certificate and your social media graphic.
• We will email this to the contact you provided in the form.
• Don’t worry if you don’t receive it straight away.
• We will also use this information to keep you
updated about your entry.
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org
35. • We understand this is a friendly competition, but we also want to
make sure we can celebrate as many people as possible.
• Please tell lots of people about it so they can enter too.
• The more people who enter and get nominated, the more we can
show why representation matters.
• And don’t worry if you don’t win this time, you are
welcome to enter with each new year.
We encourage it!
Send your questions: using the Zoom question button OR calling 0300 303 9062 OR emailing marketing@dimensions-uk.org
36. • Thank you for taking the time to listen to me, I hope you’re feeling as
excited as we are!
• Remember to send your questions using the instructions at the
bottom of the slide. Questions will close after the next section and
we’ll take a short break to get them ready for our panel.

his award last year.
