Laura Ingalls Wilder grew up in the late 1800s living on the American frontier with her parents Charles and Caroline Ingalls and three sisters. She taught school for three years in her hometown of De Smet, South Dakota and two other locations, though she did not want to be a teacher. At age 18 in 1885, Laura married Almanzo Wilder who was 10 years her senior. They had one daughter named Rose who was born after the wild roses that grew near their home. Laura documented her experiences growing up on the frontier in her famous "Little House on the Prairie" book series.
