R.K. Narayan was an Indian novelist who wrote in English. Some of his most famous works include Swami and Friends, The Guide, and Malgudi Days. He was born in 1906 in Chennai, India and obtained his bachelor's degree from the University of Mysore. Narayan created the fictional town of Malgudi, located in southern India, which served as the setting for many of his novels and short stories. He received many honors for his work, including the Padma Vibhushan, before passing away in 2001 at the age of 94.
