5. Definition
 In the linguistics language death occur when a
language loses its last native speaker
 Language death is a process in which the level of the
speech community linguistics competence in their
language variety decreases eventually resulting in no
native or fluent speaker of the variety

6. Use of the LANGUAGE
 7,111 Languages are spoken today
 These numbers are constantly in flux because we are learning more about the
world’s languages everyday and beyond that the languages themselves are in flux
 They are living and dynamic whose lived are shaped spoken by communities by
our rapidly changing world
 It is estimated that there were 10,000 to 15,000 languages are used in prehistoric
time
 6000+ languages but we are losing day by day
 In South Asia English, Urdu and Hindi are the major languages that are used

7. Endangered language
 An endangered language is the one that is likely to become extinct in the future
 Many languages are failing out of use and being replaced by the others that are
more widely used in the region or nation such as
• English in the US
• Spanish in Mexico
• Anthropologist Akira Yamamoto has identify factors that will help language
death
 There must be dominant culture that favors linguistics diversity

encourage language preservation
 The creation of the school program that are both bilingual and bicultural
 For native speakers to receive teachers training
 The endangered speech community must be completely involved
 The language must be used in new environments and areas
