Language teaching can be described as teaching people a foreign language so that they can understand and speak the language. The goals of ELT or language teaching are both far-reaching and highly individualized. This is because most of the answers on why
a person would like to learn a second language come
from the individuals involved. Although most of the
reasons may be individualized, some of the reasons are
universal. These include the idea that English language
is one of the global languages spoken in a large number
of countries worldwide. From a general perspective,
people cite various reasons for learning this language
that include but not limited to the future of one’s career,
travelling reasons especially in countries that speak
English, to gain a better comprehension of the ways of
life experienced in the countries where the language is
spoken, and to be able to live in a country where the
language is spoken.
The external goals relate to the usage of the
learnt language outside of the classroom context. This
could be usage of the language while travelling around
or when using the language in trains. It can also be seen
when an individual attends lectures in another country
or when surviving in a country as a refugee. These contexts represent the usage of a language to fulfill the external category. On the side of the internal category, the
goals are related to the individual’s mental development. After learning the second language, the individuals may begin thinking differently, start approaching
language from a different perspective, and become better citizens because of the effects of learning a new language. This is because a new language can have diverse
effects on the learners’ minds (Nunan and David 48-52).
While the L1 language may train the brain, the L2 can
increase the individual’s awareness. In most instances
and for most individuals, external reasons dominate the
language teaching methodology. Self-development is
also a key reason of learning a second language.

Do you speak “business” or “IT”? Perhaps you speak a little of both. In today’s connected world, where business and IT are fused, chances are that if you’re a business or IT executive, or someone working to transform a business, you speak a little of both.
But what if there was a “third” language? A common language that was natural for both “business” and “IT,” straightforward enough to use, yet sophisticated enough to work in today’s connected world? What if such a language only comprised a handful of words?
With such a language, the “loss in translation” between the business and IT would happen less, because both would be using the same language. With such a language, business outcomes and transformations would become much more achievable.
This book presents a new language of Information Systems for the 21st century.
Reading a fresh trend report should fill your head with new perspectives on how to transform your business. However, the value of a trend report often hinges on the ability to translate its themes correctly into good ideas. When misunderstood, trends can feel uninspiring, confusing, or just plain weird. Given that there are few standards for how trends should be communicated, the chances of misinterpreting them seems high. Two experiments using ideation sessions showed that sensory language and image-based priming can dramatically improve a person’s ability to translate trend information into relevant ideas. Learn why a “chef-inspired” trend is better than a “gourmet” one, or why “hallucinogenic” properties are better than “mood-altering” ones.
Lost in Translation: Connecting Data Insights with Marketing ExecutionBig-Data-Summit
Data insights are as good as how they are communicated, its usefulness and impact. As business environments become more complex and competitive, managers need to be able to detect or predict trends and respond to them early. Cross functional misunderstandings and misalignment of goals can result in data analytical project requests not being fully utilized by marketing leads. For data analysts, making small communication changes can result in larger, organizational impact.

Kohn 2018_ELF - From research to pedagogy_RELC Conf 12-14 March 2018Kurt Kohn
The evolution of research on English as a lingua franca (ELF) is characterized by three major paradigm shifts from ‘variety’ to ‘communicative use’ to ‘translanguaging practice’. These shifts are accompanied by pedagogical suggestions for ELT, which all have in common that they are generally met with suspicion and resistance from ELT professionals (e.g. “Do you want me to teach incorrect English?”). In my talk I will address this conflict between ELT and ELF with the aim of reconciliation. From the perspective of a social constructivist understanding of language learning and communication, special attention will be given to a reconceptualization of Communicative Language Teaching focusing on three issues: a creatively open pedagogical orientation towards Standard (Native Speaker) English, speaker satisfaction as an endonormative criterion of communicative success, and implementation of English (or any other target language) as a pedagogical lingua franca. Results from pedagogical research projects in the European secondary school context will be used to discuss the pedagogical potential of telecollaboration for involving learners of English in authentic intercultural communication and thereby helping them to develop an emancipated non-native speaker identity and thus to become speakers of English.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
