How can cities implement the United Nations' SDGs locally? - an example from ...Carlos Hanke Barajas
Since January 2016, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), developed within the framework of Agenda 2030 for sustainable development, have applied to all countries of the world. Hardly any of these goals can be achieved without the participation of cities.
Mannheim is already involved in many ways in the field of sustainability. In a broad-based participation process we have worked together with more than 2,500 Mannheim residents, companies, institutions, initiatives and associations, universities, self-help groups and others to develop a large number of proposals and suggestions for the "Mannheim 2030" mission statement. The central questions were how the 17 global sustainability targets can be implemented at local level and what our life in Mannheim should look like in 2030. Based on the findings and results of the mission statement process, the previous strategic objectives of the City of Mannheim were revised. Through the local implementation of Agenda 2030, Mannheim is making an important contribution to a more sustainable and fairer world and is playing a pioneering international role in this

Some expected conclusions
Sustainable Development Goal 1 is to End poverty in all its forms everywhere. 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity. (Sajid Imtiaz)
Occupying merely 3% of global land resource and housing more than half of global population, cities are known to generate global prosperity besides consuming 70% of energy and 75% of global carbon footprints. Cities are also known to be major consumers of both manmade and natural resources besides generating large waste. Majority of global problems of climate change, global warming, rising temperature , flooding, disasters etc. can be attributed to the way cities are being treated , valued, planned and managed. If cities are the centres of all problems on this planet earth, surely they also have the solutions to overcome these problems. In order to make this world more sustainable, it will be critical to understand, appreciate, study and analyse the sources of the existing urban problems and then find options to overcome those problems. Considering the problem of energy, cities need to produce their own energy from the natural sources, rather than consuming black energy generated by thermal plants. In addition, cities need to be evaluated in terms of the activities which consume large energy. Focus should be to make those activities resource efficient. Travel, traffic and built environment are the major consumers of energy, they need to be reinvented and redefined to make them least consumers of energy. Cities need to look for green options of travel and creating built environment. Cities need to evolve their agenda for minimizing climate change. Reducing urban waste calls for adopting circular economy approach. Technology would need to be leveraged to make cities more resource/energy efficient. Large options are available on this planet earth which needs to be leveraged in a rational and realistic manner to make cities zero-carbon, in order to overcome the global problems revolving around sustainability, livability, quality of life, poverty and non-availability of basic human needs.
The future of sustainable development. It does not have to be taxing in term of resource scarcity and lack of wellbeing. A good example of sustainable development is given by St Lazare Railway station in Paris. This main infrastructure for the city and national logistic for transport has not changed so much since it was created early at the beginning of 19th century. The railways station, which used to serve a couple of stations and within the scope of city street limits between Paris ad London streets, has not changed so much since that date. However, in the early 19th until today, it has adapted to the dynamism of passenger and good trafic flows, in such a way that most design and architecture in a witness of ancient Paris. It is real sustainable development, which is helping to adapt to transformation and changes of our environment. On can expect, when designers and planners want to improve the wellbeing of the city, make it inclusive, resilient, safe and sustainable (Post 2015 Sustainable Development Goals 11), one should look at these ancient elements of the organization (internal and external) in such a way one does not destroy the old organization, but build new ones in continuity with past design. This process of changes, with a quality preservation help the present and future generation be balance in harmony with nature.

Sustainable Development Goals e Post 2015 Strategy - FutureDem Summer School ...Emilio D'Alessio

f you offer a service on the web, odds are that someone will abuse it. Be it an API, a SaaS, a PaaS, or even a static website, someone somewhere will try to figure out a way to use it to their own needs. In this talk we'll compare measures that are effective against static attackers and how to battle a dynamic attacker who adapts to your counter-measures.
