Evelyn Pickering de Morgan was a late Victorian painter who lived from 1855 to 1919. She came of age during a period of significant social and political change in England. Despite facing obstacles as a female artist, she received an excellent education and support from family. In 1887 she married William de Morgan, with whom she had a happy marriage and collaborated artistically. Her paintings often depicted strong female figures and used symbolism to comment on contemporary social and spiritual issues.
