Malaria, HIV/AIDS, and tuberculosis continue to have devastating impacts in Africa due to lack of access to health care and medicines. Malaria alone causes over 350 million illnesses and kills over 1 million people annually, mostly pregnant women and children in Africa. Over 30% of medicines in Africa are counterfeit, containing nothing effective. HIV/AIDS has created over 13 million orphans in sub-Saharan Africa, with 22 million people currently living with HIV. Tuberculosis is also on the rise, with 30 million predicted deaths and 300 million new infections in the next 10 years, especially affecting those in conflict areas without adequate health facilities and access to treatment.
