 The great cathedral took many years to build. The building of
Notre Dame continued from 1163 to 1334.

 It took them over 180 years to build.
THE CATHEDRAL

 Notre Dame means- for our lady of Paris.
 No other building is so associated with the history of Paris as Notre-
Dame.
 Standing on the Ile de la Cite on the eastern side.
 The cathedral is a gothic masterpiece standing on the site of a Roman
temple.
 also known as Notre Dame Cathedral or simply Notre Dame, is a
Gothic, Roman Catholic cathedral.
UNIQUE QUALITIES
 Galerie des Chimeres- the cathedral’s legendary gargoyles.

 West rose window and south Rose window- these windows depicts
the virgin in a medallion of rich reds and blues.

 Flying buttresses- arches leading away from the building to hold it
up. Wanted their cathedrals to be full of light, so they would be
inspiring, not dark and depressing.
