This document discusses the increasing use of part-time lecturers by universities in Kenya as a cost-cutting strategy due to reduced government funding and increasing student enrollment. While this strategy helps reduce costs, research shows part-time lecturers are less satisfied with their jobs due to lack of job security, career paths, and opportunities for professional development. This lower job satisfaction and commitment can negatively impact their teaching performance and service delivery to students, reducing the profitability of the universities. The study recommends regulating part-time positions and enacting policies to better integrate part-time staff into university workforces.
