Lithuanians celebrate Christmas Eve (Kūčios) on December 24th, where families clean their homes, bathe, and have a sparse meal in preparation for Santa Claus (Kalėda) arriving after nightfall. Kalėda is depicted as bringing gifts in his carriage from far away lands. A symbol of the deer with nine horns represents defeating winter and the coming of spring. Christmas is celebrated for three days, where the first is most sacred and work is avoided in favor of predictions for the new year. Traditional Lithuanian Christmas trees are decorated with unique straw ornaments that originated from a Lithuanian Consul's wife in Chicago.

Married women additionally wore ornate caps with peaks and ribbons above their plaits. Men's clothing featured dark colors with bright trim. Their coats were light grey or white and they wore belts and ribbons with their hats, which had straight edges and were decorated with narrow woven strips.
Dzūkija traditional clothing was more varied and colorful than other Lithuanian regions. The document discusses threats from natural forces like wind, drought, fires, deforestation, and human activity and their consequences. Strong winds can carry sand to cover houses, destroy trees which may damage cars and homes. Large droughts and fires can deteriorate large areas of forest and burn houses. Camping and cigarettes have caused forest fires that burn houses and kill people. Cutting many trees can endanger some species and change the climate. Walking in forbidden dune areas can cause the sand dunes to disappear. Rapid industrial development increases air pollution and endangers some animals and plants. The document provides sources from Lithuania, France, Italy and Norway.
2. 1 PAVEIKSLAS
Į scenos vidurį sueina vaikai, mėgdžiodami paukščių garsus. Jaunimas žaidžia žaidimą „Vilka
oudeg“. Pasirodo KUPRIUKAS.
JAUNIMAS: Kupriuk, pagrok!
Martynai, mums kokią polką!
Judink kuprą! Ei!
Kupriuk, taip norėtųsi pasilinksminti, pagriežk greičiau.
Nagi greičiau! Grok, muzikante, „Tranksverą“!
ŠOKA TRANSKVERĄ
Jaunimas įšilęs, įsilinksminęs traukiasi. Temsta.
2 PAVEIKSLAS
Kupriukas eina į scenos priekį. Tolumoje ūkia pelėda. Šešėliuose – kryžiai. Krankteli varna.
Kupriukas atsisėda ant kupsto, prisnūsta.
PONAS: Labas vakaras, muzikante. Nesibaugink. Gal galėtum mums šį vakarą pagroti – matai, jau
ponai su poniomis renkasi?
KUPRIUKAS: Pagroti? O ką jums groti, ar jums sugebėsiu įtikti – tokiems ponams? Aš juk
paprastas kaimo muzikantas – Kupriukas...
KUPRIUKAS: Gerai, ponuli. Pagrosiu jums „Lelenderį“.
ŠOKA LELENDERĮ velnių ir raganų puota
Įneša sukabintas dešras, butelius ant pagalių. Scenoje šoka visi: ir ponai, ir daiktai, ir maistas.
Šokiui pasibaigus, prie Kupriuko preina du velniai. Atneša du maišus: tuščią ir pilną aukso.
VELNIAS 1: rinkis maišą.
3. VELNIAS 2: auksą ar tuščią renkiesi?
KUPRIUKAS: Kam man tas auksas, jei aš su kupra? Renkuosi tuščią – gal jame slepiasi koks
burtas?
Velniai užmauna Kupriukui maišą ant galvos ir visi, trankant šiurpiai muzikai, muša vargšelį.
Veikėjai sukasi. Sukasi širmos. Kupriukas lieka gulėti vienas scenos priekyje.
3 PAVEIKSLAS
KUPRIUKAS: Oi oi, tikra raganų ir velnių puota... Ot papuoliau. Viešpatie, kas su manimi pasidarė
– toks lengvumas, toks gerumas širdyje, lyg...kas kuprą būtų nuėmęs? Kupros nebėra? Aš – nebe
kuprius?
Apsičiupinėja, visas nušvitęs išsitiesia. Merginos iš nugaros eina, apžiūrinėja, vaikinai tarpusavy
stebisi, šnekučiuojasi.
1 MERGA: Koks gražus jaunikaitis!
2 MERGA: Koks dailus bernaitis...

PONAITIS: Papasakok, Kupriuk, oi, Martynai, kas gi tau nutiko, kaip gi tu tos kupros atsikratei?
KUPRIUKAS: Aną vakarą, vėlai eidamas iš jaunimo šokių būsiu, matyt, prisnūdęs prie kapinių ant
kupsto. Jaučiu, kad kažin kas man į šoną baksnoja, atsibundu – gražus ponas. Paprašė manęs pagroti
baliuje. Tai aš ir pagrojau. Už tai man atnešė du maišus. Vieną – piną aukso...
PONAITIS: Aukso?? Pilną maišą?
KUPRIUKAS: Taip. Ir dar...
PONAITIS: Duokš man savo smuikelę, ir aš noriu tiems ponams pagroti.
4. Išplėšęs smuiką, išbėga į užkulisius. Įvažiuoja širmos. Renkasi ponai. Ponaitis dairosi scenos
priekyje, čirpina smuikelį.
PONAS: O! Dar vienas muzikantas! Pagrosi mums? Bet taip, kad padai rūktų!
Užriša akis. Ponaitis groja.

nenukris.
Apsičiupinėjęs suvokia, kad ne maišą aukso, o kuprą įgijęs. Užsikniaubęs verkia. Prie jo prieina
Kupriukas – Martynas, paima smuiką.
MARTYNAS: LINKSMAPOLKĖ!
Pasigirsta muzika, visi dalyviai eina į priekį.
