2. Location
• NPP Kozloduy is located 200 km north of the
Bulgarian capital on the Danube River, near
the town of Vratsa.
• Production facilities are located in an area of
about 1000 acres. The infrastructure of NPP
"Kozloduy" includes the private bank pump
station and channels for technical water
supply to which the total area of the power
plant is estimated at 4,471 acres.

4. History
• Kozloduy nuclear power plant is the first
nuclear power plant in Bulgaria and southeastern Europe.
The beginning of the nuclear power
engineering was laid on 15 July 1966 by
signing the agreement for cooperation
between Bulgaria and former Soviet Union for
the construction of a nuclear power plant.
5. • Some completely Bulgarian projects have been
implemented for the first time in the world
practice in the construction of nuclear power
plants. Some of these technical solutions are
significant engineering achievements foreign
specialists have been interested in.
The construction of the main building of
Kozloduy NPP started on 6 April 1970 -240 m
long, 105 m wide and 40 m high. On 20 th
November 1972 the first reactor was installed into
the reactor cavity.

7. Technological scheme of the NPP
with water-energy reactor
• The principle scheme of the NPP with water-water
power reactor is dual-core. This solution is
advantageous from the viewpoint of nonradioactive substances, since there is no mixing of
the water from the two circuits. All the equipment
for the first loop is placed in a sealed volume,
which by means of the exhaust ventilation is
maintained at a pressure lower than atmospheric
pressure.

9.
10. • Safety is the main priority at Kozloduy NPP and it is a
subject to independent state surveillance by the Nuclear
Regulatory Agency at the Bulgarian Council of
Ministers. Kozloduy NPP safety has been highly
assessed and acknowledged internationally as a result
of the reviews conducted in the last years.
• The electricity generation of Kozloduy NPP entirely
fits into the World Nuclear Association’s concept of
nuclear renaissance. The company meets the high
environmental requirements of the Kyoto Protocol for
it does not release any greenhouse gasses into the
atmosphere and it does not pollute The Danube river.
