This document outlines a presentation given at the Geography Teacher Educators Conference in January 2022. The presentation introduced an innovative pedagogical model and toolkit for teaching geography with GIS (geographic information systems). It described six steps for lesson plans using GIS and provided two case study examples, one for ages 11-14 on physical landscapes and another for ages 17-18 demonstrating a tool. The project aims to develop an online teacher training course and digital exhibition of case studies. Attendees were invited to provide feedback and learn more about upcoming conferences to present the work.

Step 1: Direct instruction / teacher facilitated stage - this is where schema building begins. Present new

Step 2: Modelling / Scaffolding, with review and questioning – what data are needed?

Step 6: Presentation/Assessment (Peer assessment possible too) and sharing of outcomes. This will also be
the stage where students may feel secure enough to start their own exploration.
