2. My boyfriend and I bought a puppy togeth-
er about a year ago, and our now 1 year old;
80-pound dog is definitely one of kind. Be-
cause of my boyfriend’s Native American
descent; we named our puppy Takoda-which
means ‘friends with everyone’. I have had
animals my whole life; I owned everything
from hamsters, to bunnies, to cats. I was
terrified of dogs from an attack I had from
a neighborhood dog when I was a young
child. I was hesitant when my boyfriend said
he wanted a dog, but we fell in love with our
cute little puppy and I never looked back.
Takoda is a big inspiration for this project
because he showed me that there is good in
everything and everyone. I wanted to resem-
ble the fun-loving ball of fur in the branding
I created for the company; I wanted people
of all ages to want to come to a pet store with
a good atmosphere. T&F is a place that truly
makes them and their pets happy and keeps
them healthy. I also wanted the logo to show
the silliness my dog possesses, as I am sure,
even though they might rip apart a shoe from
time to time, memories with pets are ones to
cherish.
This project includes a brand brief, signature/
tagline, touch points, and a business stan-
dards guide. As soon as I looked at the as-
signment sheet I knew exactly what I wanted
to do, I often don’t chose personal projects
because I become too invested and don’t
take the design side of things into account as
much as I should. Needless to say, I am hap-
py I took the risk on Takoda and Friends, It
turned out fantastic and I loved the content
from start to finish!
3. This website was designed for a family friend who was looking for some more
traffic for her start-up Photography business. After successfully creating a
Facebook page together, Kara wanted to expand her clientele beyond social
media to something a little more professional.
Taking the content we had put on her preexisting page, we made a simple
4 page website that featured her, her work, categorized photography
shoots, and a contact page. She and I are very happy with the end result
and she is working on making it a live site!
4. Uncovered Cosmetics is an
Eco-Friendly and Animal-Cruelty free
makeup company. After collecting data
and displaying it is a Research Report,
I then developed a Logo. The logo
featured a modern design mixing script
and sanserif along with a lip stain. The
final part of the project included the ap-
plication of the logo on various items.
5. Perfectly Pickled is the first packaging project I did. Creating designs in a trio, we were required
to redesign a jar or can of our choice. This project was tricky because I was unaware of all the
content that had to be used to industry standards. I enjoyed this project because It was one of the
many we were able to revisit and photograph.
6. Wickenstock
2015/16 ANNUAL
REPORT
GARDENING ASSOCIATION
Wickenstock Gardening Association required an Annual Report for the 2015/16 year.
The report is 28 pages of CMYK colour. Wickenstock helps seniors and youth create
gardens that provide them with fresh produce and joy. The sunflower was used as a
main focal point throughout the booklet, a golden yellow, and brown were pulled from
the flower and used for headings and text. Wickenstock also required a logo which is
also based off of the sunflower theme.
7. In elections, the youth vote is the most unused
vote. With voting becoming more and more
unpopular and the number of youth NOT
voting increasing we came together to design a
voting campaign specifically targeting people
ages 18-24. I worked in a group with 2 other
classmates for this project. Originally we
decided we were going to focus on the reasons
why youth weren’t voting, ‘it is a waste of
time’, or ‘i don’t have time’ was the top answers
we gave each other speaking from our own
reasons and research that followed proved our
assumptions to be true. We brainstormed and
researched what average people do everyday
that is a waste of time, we came up with very
simple ones like; waiting in line for a coffee,
watching Netflix, watching the microwave
count down, phone apps, and eventually landed
on gaming. The age group that isn’t casting
votes is the age group that also spends the most
hours a day gaming, on average.
When developing the idea further, we then
made the connection between the amount of
time it takes to vote, and the amount of time
people spend playing video games. From that
point on, the project took off. I was the one
that came up with the original idea, as a group
we made an environmental graphic, a direct
mail piece, logo, poster, website homepage and
button.
8. The Fault in our Stars became a very popu-
lar book in mid 2015 when the motion picture
was released. The book (and movie) is about
two teenage cancer patients that begin a
life-changing journey to Amsterdam to visit an
author who’s book helped them through their
treatment and recovery. Looking at the cover,
you wouldn’t know what the book was about,
John Green is famous for his hand done ty-
pography and original covers but for the story
The Fault in our Stars tells, it wasn’t accurate.
I chose to focus on the love aspect of the
book because, aside from the sad connection
to cancer, the book is a beautiful love story
between two teenagers who connect by their
troubles but then move into a happier stage
of life together. The typography on the front
cover is slightly altered, and the heart in the
background is repeated on both the font and
back cover to show represent the two hearts
of the main characters, they start the book as
two separate hearts (which happens when the
book is open and the covers separate) and
they end the book as one (when the book is
closed after the final page).
