5. The company was founded as Kentucky Fried Chicken by Colonel Harland
Sanders in 1952, though the idea of KFC's fried chicken actually goes back to
1930. Although Sanders died in 1980, he remains an important part of the
company's branding and advertisements, and "Colonel Sanders" or "The Colonel"
is a metonym for the company itself. The company adopted KFC, an abbreviated
form of its name, in 1991. Newer and remodeled restaurants will adopt the new
logo and name, while older stores will continue to use the 1980s signage.
Additionally, Yum! continues to use the abbreviated name freely in its advertising.

Supplier Code of Conduct (the "Code") for Yum U.S. suppliers ("Suppliers").
• Compliance with Laws and Regulations:
• Suppliers are required to abide by all applicable laws, codes or regulations including, but not limited to, any local, state
or federal laws regarding wages and benefits, workmen's compensation, working hours, equal opportunity, worker and
product safety. Yum also expects that Suppliers will conform their practices to the published standards for their industry.
• Employment Practices:
• Working Hours & Conditions: In compliance with applicable laws, regulations, codes and industry standards, Suppliers are

schedules. Employees should not be required to work more than the number of hours allowed for regular and overtime
work periods under applicable local, state and federal law.

indentured servitude, nor should threats of violence, physical punishment, confinement, or other form of physical, sexual,

10. Animal Welfare
• ANIMAL WELFARE PROGRAM
• Yum! Brands, parent company of KFC, is also
committed to the humane treatment of animals
Yum! Brands is the owner of restaurant
companies and, as such, does not own, raise or
transport animals. However, as a major
purchaser of food products, have the
opportunity, and responsibility, to influence the
way animals supplied are treated. Yum take that
responsibility very seriously, and a remonitoring
its suppliers on an ongoing basis to determine
whether its suppliers are using humane
procedures for caring for and handling animals
they supply. As a consequence, it is goal to only
deal with suppliers who promise to maintain
high standards and share yum, s commitment
to animal welfare. Yum! Brands formed the KFC
Animal Welfare Advisory Council, which consists
of highly regarded experts in the field.
11. Human Rights
• The company also looks out for the health
and safety of their workers. Since KFC is a
fast food chain, then its workers are very
busy, the company's representatives affirm
that they are always trying to protect their
respective employees from detrimental
hazards in the workplace. In line with this,
KFC always ensures that their employees
work for them voluntarily. This means that
the company detests forced labour. They
also believe in according their employees
justice in case of any eventuality. Their
disciplinary measures have always been fair
and few employees complain about how
their administration handles such unusual
occurrences. It is a known fact that some
employees in the corporate world
utilise mental punishment as a way of
repressing their employees and keep them
subservient.
12. Work force Diversity
Diversity is more than a philosophy at KFC; it is
part of our founding “How We Work Together”
principles. Our global culture is actively
developing a workforce that is diverse in style
and background, where everyone can make a
difference.
13. Environment
We are intentional about incorporating
sustainability into our way of doing
business to reduce our environmental
footprint for the benefit of our
customers, associates, franchisees and
their families, shareholders and the
planet.
We deliver on our commitment by
focusing on these key areas:
GREEN BUILDINGS
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
WATER CONSERVATION
SUPPLIER SCORECARD
PAPER-BASED PACKAGING
WASTE RECOVERY AND RECYCLING
14. Unethics at KFC
The People for Treatment of Animals (PETA), an animal right protection
organization, accused KFC for its unethical treatment (behavior) towards
the chicken in
KFC’s supplier factory farms. Pilgrim’s Pride
(PP)
is one of KFC’s
award-winning supply operations and the second largest processor of
chickens in the United States. PETA’s investigations in Pilgrim’s
Pride poultry farm brought to light the inappropriate practices that
prevailed in KFC’s supplier operations.
PETA released a shocking video that clearly depicted thrill-
treatment of chickens and the unhygienic behavior in the Pilgrim’s Pride
poultry farm.
Experts commented the video to have depicted the worst cruelty towards
chicken and the worst employee behavior. The release of the video led to
widespread protest against KFC around the world
15. Overcrowded
Overcrowded farm
environment
• The chickens are stuffed by tens of
thousands into overcrowded sheds
where they hardly find space to move
freely. To saves pace and avoid
chicken hurting each other, the
sensitive chicken beaks are cut off
with hot blade without giving any
pain killers. Overcrowding and poor
litter quality in the farms also caused
painful ammonia burns on the
chickens. The injured chickens
received no treatment and had to
bear the pain throughout their life.
16. Improper Breeding
Birds are fed genetically modified feed in order
to accelerate their growth rate. As a result they
suffer from ailments such as extreme obesity
and fatty livers and kidneys, heart attacks and
other problems.
17. Slaughter House
The chickens are slaughtered before
they are 6 weeks old .At the slaughter
house, chickens are hung upside down
and transferred through conveyor
belts to the killing room fully
conscious. Too many chickens are
dumped from the crates to the fast
moving conveyor belt that caused the
birds at the bottom to get suffocated.
Unable to manage the large in flow of
chickens, the workers threw away
some chickens slamming them to the
walls or floors. During the processing,
to remove feathers, the live chickens
are thrown into scalding-hot water
19. Frustrated Workers
Due to poor wages and working conditions,
employees used the chickens as a means to
vent frustrations and alleviate boredom.
They twisted the bird’s heads off, spat tobacco
into their eyes
and mouths, spray-painted their faces, used
them as footballs and squeezed their bodies so
hard that the birds expelled faces
20. GREENPEACE Perspective
Another unethical issue raised against KFC is its link with
the destruction of the Amazon Rainforest. In May, 2006
Greenpeace volunteers came up to enlighten the whole
world about the mass deforestation in Amazon rainforest
caused by KFC.
Greenpeace has come up with a term for KFC as “KFC –
Amazon Criminal”.
According to Greenpeace, KFC is fuelling the destruction
of Amazon by selling cheap chicken fen on soya grown on
deforested land. Green peace investigation clearly traced
that large area of rain fourth as been destroyed by direct
sales of cheap soya via Cargill by KFC , in order to sell
billions of chickens to its customer every year, at low cost.
The demand of soya fed for its chicken by KFC to Cargill
has led to this unethical activity, which is affecting the
global climate. Rainforest that covered 14% of earth
’
s land area has reduced to 6% due to deforestation, which
clearly shows the high overall impact of business
practices.
21. Ethics
INDIA
• KFC, generally grooming its
business thought-out the
world through its human rights
, specially pays of employs
,environmental factors.
• In India kick about 200 pay for
one hours, and also make
agreement with TMA India to
improve the environment and
take a voice ''Grow green"
CANADA
• Kentucky Fried Chicken
employment practices are also
ethical. This is due to the fact that
the company does not discriminate
against individuals on the basis of
race, gender, disability or any other
factor. The company's recruitment
practices largely focus on the
capabilities of the potential
candidate rather than on their
respective race, cultural
backgrounds etc. In line with these
practices, the company usually
offers overtime for employees who
decide to work beyond the normal
working hours in Canada.
22. • In India it also
respect their culture
and provide meal
according to their
culture like as
• Vegetarian
• Non vegetarian
• In Canada it provide
meal according to
their culture like as
• Beef
• Pork's
• Chicken
• Sheep
23. Unethics
INDIA
• Provide Greasy or injected
Unhealthy Food
• Advertisement Mislead
CANADA
• KFC ethical activities have
been put to the test when
some animal rights activist
challenged KFC' treatment of
chicken. In the month of June
2008, the People for the
Ethical Treatment of Animals
(PETA) together with
Hollywood actress Pamela
Anderson sent written
complains to the KFC
managing Director in the UK
for unethical treatment of
chicken.
