- 1. 109 N. Graham Street, Suite 203 Chapel Hill, NC 27516 919.338.2599 Key Milestones for Chapter Success Here are sixteen milestones that we find useful in measuring the success of our Chapters. One of the ways a Chapter can measure its success is by comparing how many of these milestones they reach in a given year compared to the previous year. For mature Chapters, these milestones can help a Chapter leader determine areas to focus on for improvement. Often, when and how these milestones happen is as important as if they happen. These milestones can be divided into three categories: participation, profitability and projects. Participation Build an Executive Team Do you have a core team assembled? Does it have regularly scheduled meetings? Are they attended by all members of the Executive team? Student Organization Status Have you attained official status as a student organization with the University administration? If an already established chapter, have you been able to renew or maintain it? Interest Meeting Have you held an initial interest meeting for the general student body? How many people were in attendance? General Body Meetings Have you held a General Body meeting? Have you established a regular date and location for these meetings? How often are they scheduled? How many attend on a regular basis? Committees Have committees been established for international projects and for ventures? Do they have regular meeting times and locations? General Body How large is the general body? Are they active? How many regularly attend meetings? Transitioning Leadership ` Is there a process in place for transitioning leadership? Is there a process in place for training the new leaders? Does a smooth leadership transition occur at the end of the year? Profitability 1st Venture Has a first venture been held? What was the attendance? Was it profitable? If so, how much did it earn? Last Updated: 8/04/2009

If so, how much did they earn? Consistent Venture Has the Ventures Committee selected a consistent venture? Does it occur on a regular basis in a specific location? How often is the venture held? What is the profit each time it is held? Is it a steady source of income or variable based on campus conditions? Chapter Profitability How much money has the Chapter earned this year? How does this compare to previous years? First year Chapters should shoot for $3,000. Mature Chapters should aim for a minimum of $5,000. Projects Selecting a Partner Has the International Projects committee researched and selected a partner? Have you communicated with the partner about expectations for number of students sent and money raised? Have you made a schedule and travel arrangements? Project Implementation Were goals for funding and student participation met for the project? How many students are participating? Has the project been completed? Project Reporting Have you created a report on the project outcomes? Have you communicated with the partner about the success of the project? Have you communicated the report to the National Office? How do the outputs and outcomes of the project compare to the desired outputs and outcomes? Project Follow-up Have you followed up with project partner 1 month out, 6 months out, one year out to determine the project impact? Is the project still functioning in the community? Multiple Projects Have you run multiple projects? Have they been follow-up projects in the same community or projects in different communities?
