Audience
Definitions:
1. People or market segment at whom an advertising message or campaign is aimed.
2. Total number of readers, listeners, or viewers reached by a particular advertising medium.
Audience plays a key role in media as without it there would be no media. It is the way the media make a profit.
In relation to gameshows, different genres will target a different range of audience as well as the time of day it is
aired. For example, the dating genre eg. ‘Take Me Out’ is broadcasted on a Saturday evening, which would be ideal
for the younger audiences. On the other hand, ‘Deal Or No Deal’ is aired on evening weekdays which attracts a more
elderly audience. There are stereotypically a different variety of audience depending on gender as well as the range
of age.
Institution
Definition:
1. Organisation or company, public or privately owned that produces and/or distributes media products.
Institutions involve who has made or published the gameshow including presenting it. Therefore an
example is Channel 4 and Itv. They have a significant impact on the number of viewings of the show mostly
depending on how well-known the company is. Such as Worldwide institutions such as BBC would have a
larger impact. Thes effect the beliefs, attitudes and interests.
