What is Media Studies • Media Studies involves the close analysis of the images, sounds and text that we experience via the media. • It is the study and creation of individual media texts. • Our focus in Year 12 is on FILM and TELEVISION • You need to develop an understanding of the following things in relation to these: Media Studies @ KBA
- 3. • INSTITUTION = Who made them? • PROCESS = How were they made? • PURPOSE = Why were they made? • AUDIENCE = Who were they made for? • CODES and CONVENTIONS = What rules were followed when making them? Media Studies @ KBA
- 4. What do we do? 50% Examination 1. Key Media Concepts (TV Drama) PH 2. Institutions and Audiences (Film) LE 50% Coursework – Foundation Portfolio 1. Preliminary Task (PH / IC) 2. Main Task – Opening 2 minutes of a teen horror film including titles (PH / IC) Media Studies @ KBA
- 5. Foundation Portfolio Marked out of 100 • Research and Planning = 20 marks • Production = 60 marks • Evaluation = 20 marks
- 6. What you have to do.. • A preliminary task (not marked but has to be completed) • A main task The opening 2 minutes of a teen horror film including titles No copyright protected music or sounds can be used
- 7. The Stages we follow.. • Complete the preliminary task • Research into codes and conventions of horror films • Plan your opening • Film your opening • Edit your opening • Evaluate your opening
