John Lennon was born in 1940 in Liverpool, England during a German air raid of World War II. He had a chaotic childhood, being sent to live with his Aunt Mimi as his parents fought over custody. As an adult, Lennon became involved in the peace movement, writing songs like "Give Peace a Chance" in 1969 to protest the Vietnam War. Although the Nixon administration tried to have him deported, Lennon's order of deportation was later overturned and he was allowed to remain in the U.S., but he was tragically shot and killed in 1980.
