John Lennon was a famous British musician and political activist who co-founded the Beatles in the 1960s. As a child growing up in Liverpool, he formed his first band called The Quarrymen. He later met Paul McCartney and George Harrison and they changed the name of the band to The Beatles. The Beatles went on to huge success but broke up in 1970. After the break up, John began a successful solo career and was known for his political activism and song "Imagine", but he was tragically assassinated by a fan in 1980 in New York City.
