● John Lennon was a famous musician,
composer, poet, writer, actor, and political
activist.
Biography

Childhood
● John Winston Lennon was born on
9 October, 1940, in Liverpool.
● His mother Julia gave him the
second name Winston after the
British Prime Minister Winston
Churchill.
● John spent his childhood in his
aunt Mary’s (Mimi’s) house.
“...was bored on the 9th of Octover 1940 when, I
believe, the Nasties were still booming us led by
Madolf Heatlump (who only had one). Anyway
they didn't get me…”
The Quarrymen
● At the age of 16, John formed his
first band together with his
friends - The Quarrymen
● The band was named after the
name of John’s school - the Quarry
Bank
The Beatles
● In 1957 John met Paul McCartney
and George Harrison, and they
joined the band.
● In the early 1960s, they changed
the name of the band to the
Beatles.
“It came in a vision - a man appeared on a
flaming pie and said unto them, 'From this day
forward you are Beatles with an A.' “
Hamburg
● In 1960-62, The Beatles performed
in several nightclubs in Hamburg
● They also made their first
recording there.
Back to Liverpool
● Upon return , the band met its
future manager Brian Epstein.
● However, the first attempts at
record studios were unsuccessful.

Beatlemania
● The Beatles became popular after
releasing the song “Love Me Do” in
1962.
● In 1963, they recorded their first disc
“Please Please Me”
● In the same year, the Beatles visited
the US.
● In 1965, the Beatles received the
Member of the Most Excellent Order of
the British Empire (MBE) medals from
the Queen

people in the cheaper seats clap your hands. And the rest of
you, if you'll just rattle your jewelry.”
The Break-up
● In 1970, the Beatles broke up
● John began his solo career
● Together with his wife Yoko Ono
he recorded several albums.
“Imagine” is the most popular
among them.
Political Activity
● John Lennon actively participated
in anti-war demonstrations
● His song “Give Peace a Chance”
became anti-war anthem for those
protesting against the war in
Vietnam.
● As part of protest, he returned his
MBE medal to the British Queen.
Death
● John Lennon was assassinated by
his mad fan on December 8, 1980,
in New York.
