Kathy Reichs' novel Fatal Voyage involves the investigation of a plane crash. Forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan is called to assist. She receives a severed foot and begins investigating on her own. Her inquiries lead her to an abandoned cabin owned by a mysterious group. She discovers the group, known as the Hell Fire Club, performed cult rituals there involving cannibalism. Temperance is eventually kidnapped and learns the truth: the plane crash was caused by a passenger's pipe smoke and the cult wanted to keep their activities secret.
