To avoid disturbing wildlife, the filmmakers decided to incorporate puffins into the scenes set on Ahch-To in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Puffins living on the island of Skellig Michael, where some of the Ahch-To scenes were filmed, could not be removed or edited out, so the filmmakers opted to include the puffins naturally in shots instead of trying to remove them.

The explanation offered was this: the path travels around “The Maw,” a
