The American Friends of the Kaplan Medical Center was incorporated in 2008 as a non-for-profit 501 (c)(3), tax-exempt organization for the purpose of representing, developing and promoting in the United States the Kaplan Medical Center (KMC), located in Rehovot, Israel. The KMC is one of the largest hospitals in the network of Clalit. Chaired by Prof. Jacques S. Abramowicz, AFKMC, the current Board of Directors, Haya Ascher-Svanum, Prof. Steven L. Warsof, Prof. Peter A. Gottlieb, Annie Abramowicz and Prof. Joachim Yahalom, composed of some of very prominent U.S. physicians, scientists and lay leaders, is actively seeking to enlarge its ranks and to garner an ever-growing support of the KMC nationwide. During the last year, we held a number of community-wide events, resulting in an increased financial support for the KMC’s projects and medical equipment purchase.

“Rehovot hospital moves patients to fortified area:
The Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot begins transferring
patients from its cardiology and intensive care wards to fortified
rooms in the wake of the uptick in rocket fire from the Gaza
Strip.”
At the beginning of the spring 2014 unrest in the Ukraine, Kiev citizens
in great numbers gathered in their 'Independence Square' to protest in
support of democracy for the Ukraine. Pro-Russian government forces
fired upon the civilians, many being cut down.
An Israeli doctor from Kaplan was visiting family in Kiev, providing
medical assistance before the shots were fired. When pro-democracy
demonstrators were taking lethal fire, she called the Rehovot hospital
CEO to request for the seriously wounded survivors to be airlifted to
Israel. An initial 10 were airlifted to the Kaplan Medical Center, and
throughout the year additional casualties have been flown in.
