 Rehabilitation of the UrbanWater Supply & Sanitation in Sava River Basin (BMZ ID 2002 65 876)
 The existing sewer system has the following defects:
 · Low connection rate. In the city centre of Kakanj, the existing sewer system serves only 35 % of the inhabitants,
who are connected to the public water supply system of. The other inhabitants discharge the wastewater without
authorization on to the land, which has caused severe environmental and public health problems.
 · In the settlement, where a separate sewer system is existent, some house connections have been connected to the
storm water pipes instead of to the wastewater pipes. This will cause the pollution of the water body if the
wastewater shall be treated in aWWTP in the future.
 · An important drinking water source “Pitka Voda”, which is situated near the city centre and is recharged with water
from the Zgosca river by bank filtration. The nearby discharge of the untreated wastewater into the Zgosca river will
cause severe damage to the drinking water supply.
 Some sewers don not discharge the collected waster water into a receiving water body, e.g. the Zgošća river or
Bosna river, but without authorization on to the land, which has caused severe environmental and public health
problems.
 · The sewerage collectors in the settlements of Mile and New Bare discharge the wastewater into the nearby creeks,
which flows through a valley before it reaches the Bosna river. This caused, the valley is very often flooded by
wastewater.
 Lot 1: Construction of a separate sewer system in Zone 1 - DN250-400, L=4,623m
 Lot 2: Construction of a separate sewer system in Zone 2 - DN250, L=1,546m
