Guru melakukan kajian tindakan untuk meningkatkan keterlibatan pelajar melalui teknik soal jawab yang efektif. Hasil observasi menunjukkan pelajar mulai terlibat secara aktif dalam pembelajaran.

2. Sejarah sekolah
SMKBM
Dalam bulan Januari 1969, sebuah sekolah menengah aliran pengantar Melayu telah dibina di Jalan Kenas, Kuala Kangsar,
Perak Darul Ridzuan. Sekolah ini dikenali sebagai Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jalan Kenas, Kuala Kangsar, Perak yang
menampung pelajar dari tingkatan satu hingga tingkatan tiga. Pada masa itu, sekolah ini cuma mempunyai tiga blok
bangunan yang menempatkan bilik darjah, bilik Sains Rumah Tangga (SRT), bengkel Seni Perusahaan, pejabat dan kantin.
Sekolah ini telah membuka kelas tingkatan empat aliran sastera pada tahun 1973. Dalam tahun yang sama, ia mendapat
dua blok bangunan baru dua tingkat yang terdiri daripada enam bilik darjah, tiga makmal sains, sebuah perpustakaan dan
dua bilik SRT. Pada tahun berikutnya, sekolah ini telah mula menjalankan Peperiksaan Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) dan
pada tahun 1975, ia telah menawarkan kelas tingkatan empat aliran sains. Pada 19 Ogos 1976, nama sekolah ini telah
ditukarkan dengan rasminya kepada Sekolah Menengah Bukit Merchu . Ia telah sempurna dirasmikan oleh Almarhum
Paduka Seri Sultan Perak, Sultan Idris Al-Mutawakil Alallahi Shah Ibni Sultan Iskandar Shah Kaddasallah. Nama sekolah ini
diambil sempena nama sebuah bukit kecil yang mana terletak di atasnya istana lama Paduka Sultan yang dipanggil Istana
Merchu. Pada tahun tersebut, sekolah ini menawarkan kelas tingkatan enam rendah.
Pelajar berkenaan menduduki Peperiksaan Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan (STP) pada akhir
tahun 1977. Sekolah ini mendapat satu blok bangunan baru tiga tingkat iaitu Blok F
yang mempunyai sepuluh bilik darjah, sebuah bilik guru, sebuah pusat sumber dan
sebuah bilik Alat Pandang Dengar dalam tahun 1981. Pada tahun 1982, sekolah ini
telah menawarkan kelas tingkatan enam aliran sains. Seterusnya, dalam tahun
tersebut pelajar mula menduduki dua blok asrama baru iaitu Asrama Putera dan
Puteri yang dapat menampung 200 pelajar. Manakala pada tahun 1993, sekolah ini
telah membuka kelas Rancangan Khas Aliran Agama bagi pelajar tingkatan satu.
Akhir sekali, sekolah ini telah menambahkan bentuk fizikalnya dengan pembinaan
sebuah dewan , sebuah blok makmal komputer dan sebuah surau pada tahun 2001.
