There are two main fishing areas in Brunei Darussalam: the Brunei Estuary and the South China Sea. The Brunei Estuary is sheltered and located along the Brunei and Temburong rivers, hosting many fish species. Coastal 'inshore' fishing within 25 km of shore and some 'offshore' fishing between 25-75 km occurs in the South China Sea, mainly off the coast of Tutong. Common fishing methods include drift nets, trawling nets, hook and line, traps, and pots. Problems facing the fishing industry include depleted coastal fish stocks and a shortage of young laborers. Solutions proposed are limiting fishing vessels, practicing selective fishing, and controlling water pollution through monitoring and waste
