2. Sisera was a proud man , trusting in his own prowess as a warrior and general, His mighty army, And his 900 chariots of iron.
3. 1 Peter 5 5-7 … Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud , and giveth grace to the humble . 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the Mighty Hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you. Isaiah 13 11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease , and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
4. God brought Sisera down on the field of battle, And God is going to bring him even lower . God did it then, and He has not changed. When we humble ourselves as the Israelites did, and call upon our God, He will lift us up . And God will bring low every one who exalts himself in pride.
5. 16 But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left. 17 Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite: for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite. Heber had peace with these Canaanites. But what about his wife?
6. 18 And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not.
7. We aren't told Jael's intentions. Did she intend at first to protect Sisera; maybe God changed her mind? Or was she unhappy with her husband's alliance with these Canaanites, And fully intended to do Sisera harm ? Either way, she became the servant of God , Doing the Will of God.
8. 18b And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle. 19 And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.
9. 20 Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man doth come and enquire of thee, and say, Is there any man here? that thou shalt say, No. This once proud man has been brought low.
10. 21 Then Jael Heber's wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died. God brought down the mighty man, With a woman's hand.
11. 22 And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent , behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail was in his temples. Barak wanted to kill Sisera, but God had said that a woman would get that glory. Verse 9
12. 23 So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel. 24 And the hand of the children of Israel prospered, and prevailed against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.
13. Sisera was a man filled with pride , confident in his host of men, his chariots, and his horses. Psalms 31 1-3 In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in Thy Righteousness. Bow down Thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be Thou my strong Rock, for an house of defense to save me. For thou art my Rock and my Fortress; therefore for Thy Name's sake lead me, and guide me. Barak was like David , an humble man, willing to submit himself to another. God gave him victory.
14. Heber had made an alliance with the devil, But his wife allied herself with the people of God. Whose side will you be on? Will it be SELF and the devil ? (They always go together.) Or will it be the Lord ?
15. He that had thought to have destroyed Israel with his many iron chariots, is himself destroyed with one iron nail. Thus the weak things of the world confound the mighty. Matthew Henry Concise Bible Commentary. Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord Almighty! Zechariah 4:6 God doesn't need our wisdom, strength, intelligence, charisma, or our technology. He can enable whom He will .
16. When we submit ourselves unto the Word of God and to the Holy Spirit of God, We are hooked directly to the Source of all Power. 1 Corinthians 1 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called :
17. 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea , and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in His presence.
