efficacy of different biomass degradable microorganisms on rice straw. The results of the present investigation

Changes in Selected Soil Physical Properties and Maize Yields as Affected by ...IJEAB
The study was conducted at Abakaliki to determine the changes in selected soil physical properties and maize yields as affected by animal wastes application in Abakaliki southeastern Nigeria in 2014 and 2015 cropping seasons. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with four treatment replicated five times. The treatments were poultry droppings at 5 tha-1 (PD), cow dung at 5 tha-1 (CD), mixture of PD + CD at 5 tha-1 and control (C) – non application of amendment. Bulk density, total porosity, moisture content, aggregate stability and mean weight diameter were determine in the laboratory using appropriate procedure while plant height, leaf area index and grain yield were also, measured in the field using recommended methods. The results showed positive changes in selected soil physical properties and maize yield in the two cropping seasons with the application of animal wastes. Also, improvement in soil physical properties and maize yields were higher in the second cropping season when compared to the first cropping season. Poultry dropping is recommended for farmers to use as fertilizer in maize production because plots treated with poultry droppings recorded the highest maize grain yield in the two cropping season than other treatments.

A study was conducted at Bina Sub-station Nalitabari, Sherpur Farm from June to October 2022 to investigate the effect of combining organic and inorganic fertilizers on rice growth and yield. It followed a randomized block design with three replications and a unit plot size of 3m×4m.The experiment consisted of five treatments: T1 100% STB (N90P15K75S12Zn2), T2 (85% CF+ 5t/ha cow dung), T3 (85% CF+ 4t/ha vermicompost), T4 (70% CF+ 5t/ha cow dung), and T5 (70% CF+ 2t/ha vermicompost). The objective was to assess their impact on the growth, yield, and yield-contributing characteristics of the BINAdhan-17 rice variety. The study found that combining inorganic fertilizer with 2t/ha of vermicompost resulted in the highest yield. Chemical fertilizer (CF) with organic sources increased yield. The tallest plants were in T1 (104.9cm), while the shortest was in T4. The highest grain yield was in T3 (5.9t/ha), and lowest in T4 (4.7t/ha).When combining 4t/ha of vermicompost with 85% CF (77kg N, 13kg P, 64kg K, 12kg S, 2kg Zn), the parameters of tillers per plant, panicle length, filled grains per panicle, 1000-grain weight, grain yield, and straw yield were maximized.Based on these findings, it can be concluded that Using high-quality rice varieties and incorporating compost, alone or with chemical fertilizers, increases yields compared to full inorganic fertilizer. The study emphasizes the importance of judicious organic and chemical fertilizer application for significantly enhancing rice yields.

In this study 41 medicinal plants have been studied and application of VAM fungi inocula on Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. Don. have been done. Monsoon showed highest colonization percentage followed by winter and summer where as spore density showed highest during winter followed by summer and monsoon.

Evaluation of Different Growing Substrates on Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) under ...Innspub Net
Hydroponic technology has many benefits that it is highly productive and conserves water and land most especially if natural resources are scarce. Normally, plants grow inside a greenhouse that controls temperature, light, water and nutrition. The study was conducted to evaluate the performance of different growing substrates on lettuce under a non-circulating hydroponics system. It was conducted at Cagayan State University – Piat Campus from September to October 2019. The Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four replications was used to test the following treatments: T1 – Rockwool, T2– Coco peat, T3 – Carbonized Rice Hull (CRH) and T4 – Sawdust. Results show that plants under coco coir (T2)–obtained the tallest and longest roots while the most number of leaves and heaviest fresh biomass was registered in rock wool (T1). In terms of water pH, the result revealed no significant differences among treatment means. In the absence of rock wool, the coco coir can be used as an alternative as growing substrates for a non-circulating hydroponics system since they did not differ significantly.

Effect of biochar on maize yield and yield components in rainfed conditions |...Innspub Net
To investigate the maize yield and nutrient concentration in its leaves as affected by biochar from different organic materials (wheat straw and sugarcane bagasse), a field experiment was conducted on maize crop during 2013 at koont research farm chakwal. The treatments were control, wheat straw biochar at 5t ha-1, and 10t ha-1, sugarcane bagasse biochar at 5t ha-1and 10t ha-1. The experiment was conducted in RCBD. Maize was grown in 4m × 6m sized plots. Soil samples were taken before sowing of crop for determination of soil pH, electrical conductivity, total organic carbon and texture. The plant parameters were grain yield, plant biomass, macro nutrients and micro nutrients. Wheat straw biochar 10 t/ha showed an increase of 16.1% N, 38.8% P, 33% K, 28.9% biomass and 20.8% grain yield. Sugarcane bagasse biochar at a rate of 10 t/ha showed significant increase of 14.9% N, 27.7% P, 30% K, 27.6% biomass and 22.1% grain yield. None of the biochar treatment showed any significant increase in micronutrient concentration in the plant.

None of the biochar treatment showed any significant increase in micronutrient concentration in plant.

This research was conducted to assist farmers in Indonesia in overcoming the problem of scarcity of fertilizers, expensive fertilizer prices and soil conditions on dry lands. The method used is an experimental method with experiments in the field. The activity started in August, 2022 until February 2023. The design used was a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with factorial experiments. The first factor was Coconut Shell Charcoal (CSC) with 2 levels, namely T0 (soil without coconut shell charcoal) and T1 (soil and coconut shell charcoal). The second factor was liquid biocompost consisting of 5 levels, namely P0 (0 cc/litre water), P1 (1 cc/litre water), P2 (2 cc/litre water), P3 (3 cc/litre water) and P4 (4 cc/litre water). The results showed that coconut shell charcoal had a significant effect on shallot growth and yield. This treatment yielded 2.23 tonnes per hectare while the treatment without the addition of charcoal yielded 1.80 tonnes per hectare. The results of this study also showed that liquid biocompost had no significant effect on shallot growth and yield. However, the 4 cc/litre water liquid biocompost treatment gave better results, namely 2.43 tonnes per hectare when compared to the treatment without the addition of liquid biocompost with a yield of 1.80 tonnes per hectare. In addition, the results of data analysis showed that there was no interaction between coconut shell charcoal and liquid biocompost.

The non – economical plant parts that are left in the field after harvest and remains that are generated from packing sheds or that are discarded during crop processing. Organic recycling has to play a key role in achieving sustainability in agricultural production. Multipurpose uses of crop residue include, but are not limited to, animal feeding, soil mulching, bio-manure, thatching of rural homes and fuel for domestic and industrial use. Thus, crop residues are of tremendous value to the farmers. Crop residue benefit the soil physically, chemically as well as biologically.

Abstract— This study was carried out to evaluate the improvement of soil fertility and crop yield using formulated organic fertilizers in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) from October 2008 to April 2015 and the test crop was tomato, eggplant, cabbage and cauliflower. The physicochemical properties, behavior and persistence of plant beneficial microorganisms including nitrogen fixing bacteria, (e.g. Rhizobium sp., Azotobacter sp.), phosphate solubilizing bacteria e.g. (Bacillus sp. Pseudomonas sp., Phosphobacteria), Aspergillus sp. and Trichoderma sp., in the amended/ non-amended block were evaluated each year. The soil beneficial microbial populations and health properties including pH, nitrogen content, organic matter, phosphorus, K, Ca, and S, increased significantly in the compost-amended soils compared to the conventional practices. The total nitrogen (N) content and the organic matter of compost amended soil were 215% and 200% higher respectively than that of conventional practices (CP). Furthermore, significant increase of available organic matter, N, P, & K was observed in the compost-amended soils compared to conventional and control block. Furthermore, microbial population showed significant linear correlations with the organic matter contents of the soils and yearly vegetables yield increased gradually and was reached to almost identical to conventional field within 5 years, implying that the soil amended with BIOFER compost increased the soil fertility, and vegetables yields. Thus, application of BAOFER compost at the rate of 15 t/ha/year was found adequate in improving the vegetable yields and soil health in open field cultivation under subtropical climatic conditions.
Effect of Rhinoceros Beetle (Oryctes rhinoceros) Larvae Compost and Vermicomp...Premier Publishers
This study aimed to investigate the effect of Oryctes rhinoceros larvae compost and vermicompost on the selected soil chemical properties. The soil was incubated with 0, 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15 % of these composts arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications. The experiment was carried out at the Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture, Universiti Malaysia Sabah. 100 mL of distilled water were added regularly to the soil-compost mixture throughout the incubation period. The soil-compost were sampled after one and four weeks of incubation. The samples were analysed for soil pH, soil electrical conductivity (EC), available P, total N and total C. Application of composts induced a positive effect on soil pH, and available P; soil pH increased from 6.29 (initial) to range 6.31-6.55, while available P of the soil increased from 1.39 mg kg-1 to range 1.73-2.02 mg kg-1. It was found that the capability of rhinoceros beetle larvae composts on the soil chemical properties have a similar effect with vermicompost. It made the insect compost are potentially beneficial for farm and can be profitable if commercially produced. It would also help in reducing rhinoceros beetle pests’ problem in oil palm plantation if this insects’ larvae were hunted for composting process.

Solid wastes of Waste Paper based Emami Paper Mill at Balasore was collected from dumping ground by the side of Swapna nala (effluent releasing channel) and vermicomposted after mixing separately with different organic materials like cabbage leaves, water hyacinth, paddy straw and sawdust in different ratio either alone or in combination with cowdung. It was found that Paper Mill Wastes (PMW) alone was not palatable to Eisenia fetida, many of them either died or moved away from the tray. Amendment of PMW with cabbage leaves was also not promising. However, the amendment of PMW with cowdung and sawdust in 1:0.5:0.5 produced good quantity vermicompost in comparatively less time with better survival of earthworms. Vermicompost of this treatment was also recorded comparatively higher nutrient contents and performed better growth of paddy seedlings
Agro-Economic Benefits of Weed Biomass and Crop Residue in Maize Production S...IOSRJAVS
The climatic conditions of coastal Kenya favour rapid weed growth, leading to the accumulation of large biomass of weeds between cropping seasons. Smallholder farmers in the region usually slash and remove the weed biomass and crop residue from their farms during land preparation in order to facilitate easy planting. The impact of such practice on the production of maize has not been assessed. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the farmers’ practice on the performance of maize and fertilizer requirement. Three methods of managing weed biomass and crop residue (removal from field, incorporation into soil, or use as surface mulch) and five fertilizer rates (60 kg N ha-1 , 20 kg P ha-1 , 30 kg N ha-1 , 10 kg P ha-1 , and no fertilizer application) were evaluated. Removal of weed biomass and crop residue from the field led to 20-26% loss in grain yield and reduced the returns to labour by 41-51%.There was no response to applied P where weed biomass and crop residue had been incorporated into soil. Efforts should therefore be made to educate farmers on the advantages of retaining weed biomass and crop residue on their farms as they prepare land for subsequent crops.

Black Seed Moringa (BSM-L) and White Seed Moringa (WSM), the two local cultivars and Black Seed Moringa (BSM-T) cultivar of Thailand origin of Moringa oleifera were cultivated in the fodder research field of the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) during the period of 19 August 2014 to 23 December 2015. An agronomical trial was conducted to determine the biomass yield of the three cultivars in different seasons of a year under common agronomical practices. The effect of the cultivars on the daily relative growth rate (RGR), chemical composition and in-sacco dry matter (DM) degradability were also evaluated. The cultivar response to biomass production performances, chemical composition and nutritional values were analyzed in an ANOVA of a Randomized Block Design (RBD), while the differences in the rate and extent of the DM degradability in-sacco determined using three rumen cannulated bulls were analyzed in an ANOVA of 3x3 Latin Square Design. The annual biomass yield of BSM-L tops (114.5 t/ha fresh; 22.7 t/ha DM) was significantly higher than that of WSM (29.0 t/ha fresh; 5.80 t/ha DM) or BSM-T (83.5 t/ha fresh; 16.0 t/ha DM). No significant difference in chemical composition (224.9, 222.4 & 223.8 g.kg-1 DM of crude protein (CP), respectively, and 450.9, 455.3 & 435.4 g.kg-1 DM of neutral detergent fiber, respectively) or nutritional value (47.4, 46.7 & 45.3% of potential, and 62.8, 64.2 and 63.6% of effective degradability of dry matter) was found for the cultivars. BSM-L had a significantly higher survivability (97.2%), prune number per plant (3.50) and RGR (15.6 mg DM/day) than WSM (25.0%, 2.30 & 4.20 mg DM/day) or BSM-T (55.6%, 3.10 & 10.8 mg DM/day) respectively. The hot and dry, and hot and humid climate having a Heat Index (HI) range of 25o to 35o F and monthly total rainfall of 130 mm to 332 mm were suitable for cultivation of all the Moringa cultivars. It was concluded that considering biomass production and its quality in terms of chemical composition and nutritional values, Black Seed Moringa (Moringa oleifera) may be cultivated as a plant fodder crop for the production of feed for ruminant animals.

To investigate the maize yield and nutrient concentration in its leaves as affected by biochar from different organic materials (wheat straw and sugarcane bagasse), a field experiment was conducted on maize crop during 2013 at koont research farm chakwal. The treatments were control, wheat straw biochar at 5t ha-1, and 10t ha-1, sugarcane bagasse biochar at 5t ha-1and 10t ha-1. The experiment was conducted in RCBD. Maize was grown in 4m × 6m sized plots. Soil samples were taken before sowing of crop for determination of soil pH, electrical conductivity, total organic carbon and texture. The plant parameters were grain yield, plant biomass, macro nutrients and micro nutrients. Wheat straw biochar 10 t/ha showed an increase of 16.1% N, 38.8% P, 33% K, 28.9% biomass and 20.8% grain yield. Sugarcane bagasse biochar at a rate of 10 t/ha showed significant increase of 14.9% N, 27.7% P, 30% K, 27.6% biomass and 22.1% grain yield. None of the biochar treatment showed any significant increase in micronutrient concentration in the plant.

This research was conducted to assist farmers in Indonesia in overcoming the problem of scarcity of fertilizers, expensive fertilizer prices and soil conditions on dry lands. The method used is an experimental method with experiments in the field. The activity started in August, 2022 until February 2023. The design used was a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with factorial experiments. The first factor was Coconut Shell Charcoal (CSC) with 2 levels, namely T0 (soil without coconut shell charcoal) and T1 (soil and coconut shell charcoal). The second factor was liquid biocompost consisting of 5 levels, namely P0 (0 cc/litre water), P1 (1 cc/litre water), P2 (2 cc/litre water), P3 (3 cc/litre water) and P4 (4 cc/litre water). The results showed that coconut shell charcoal had a significant effect on shallot growth and yield. This treatment yielded 2.23 tonnes per hectare while the treatment without the addition of charcoal yielded 1.80 tonnes per hectare. The results of this study also showed that liquid biocompost had no significant effect on shallot growth and yield. However, the 4 cc/litre water liquid biocompost treatment gave better results, namely 2.43 tonnes per hectare when compared to the treatment without the addition of liquid biocompost with a yield of 1.80 tonnes per hectare. In addition, the results of data analysis showed that there was no interaction between coconut shell charcoal and liquid biocompost.

Abstract— This study was carried out to evaluate the improvement of soil fertility and crop yield using formulated organic fertilizers in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) from October 2008 to April 2015 and the test crop was tomato, eggplant, cabbage and cauliflower. The physicochemical properties, behavior and persistence of plant beneficial microorganisms including nitrogen fixing bacteria, (e.g. Rhizobium sp., Azotobacter sp.), phosphate solubilizing bacteria e.g. (Bacillus sp. Pseudomonas sp., Phosphobacteria), Aspergillus sp. and Trichoderma sp., in the amended/ non-amended block were evaluated each year. The soil beneficial microbial populations and health properties including pH, nitrogen content, organic matter, phosphorus, K, Ca, and S, increased significantly in the compost-amended soils compared to the conventional practices. The total nitrogen (N) content and the organic matter of compost amended soil were 215% and 200% higher respectively than that of conventional practices (CP). Furthermore, significant increase of available organic matter, N, P, & K was observed in the compost-amended soils compared to conventional and control block. Furthermore, microbial population showed significant linear correlations with the organic matter contents of the soils and yearly vegetables yield increased gradually and was reached to almost identical to conventional field within 5 years, implying that the soil amended with BIOFER compost increased the soil fertility, and vegetables yields. Thus, application of BAOFER compost at the rate of 15 t/ha/year was found adequate in improving the vegetable yields and soil health in open field cultivation under subtropical climatic conditions.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of Oryctes rhinoceros larvae compost and vermicompost on the selected soil chemical properties. The soil was incubated with 0, 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15 % of these composts arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications. The experiment was carried out at the Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture, Universiti Malaysia Sabah. 100 mL of distilled water were added regularly to the soil-compost mixture throughout the incubation period. The soil-compost were sampled after one and four weeks of incubation. The samples were analysed for soil pH, soil electrical conductivity (EC), available P, total N and total C. Application of composts induced a positive effect on soil pH, and available P; soil pH increased from 6.29 (initial) to range 6.31-6.55, while available P of the soil increased from 1.39 mg kg-1 to range 1.73-2.02 mg kg-1. It was found that the capability of rhinoceros beetle larvae composts on the soil chemical properties have a similar effect with vermicompost. It made the insect compost are potentially beneficial for farm and can be profitable if commercially produced. It would also help in reducing rhinoceros beetle pests’ problem in oil palm plantation if this insects’ larvae were hunted for composting process.

Solid wastes of Waste Paper based Emami Paper Mill at Balasore was collected from dumping ground by the side of Swapna nala (effluent releasing channel) and vermicomposted after mixing separately with different organic materials like cabbage leaves, water hyacinth, paddy straw and sawdust in different ratio either alone or in combination with cowdung. It was found that Paper Mill Wastes (PMW) alone was not palatable to Eisenia fetida, many of them either died or moved away from the tray. Amendment of PMW with cabbage leaves was also not promising. However, the amendment of PMW with cowdung and sawdust in 1:0.5:0.5 produced good quantity vermicompost in comparatively less time with better survival of earthworms. Vermicompost of this treatment was also recorded comparatively higher nutrient contents and performed better growth of paddy seedlings

The climatic conditions of coastal Kenya favour rapid weed growth, leading to the accumulation of large biomass of weeds between cropping seasons. Smallholder farmers in the region usually slash and remove the weed biomass and crop residue from their farms during land preparation in order to facilitate easy planting. The impact of such practice on the production of maize has not been assessed. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the farmers’ practice on the performance of maize and fertilizer requirement. Three methods of managing weed biomass and crop residue (removal from field, incorporation into soil, or use as surface mulch) and five fertilizer rates (60 kg N ha-1 , 20 kg P ha-1 , 30 kg N ha-1 , 10 kg P ha-1 , and no fertilizer application) were evaluated. Removal of weed biomass and crop residue from the field led to 20-26% loss in grain yield and reduced the returns to labour by 41-51%.There was no response to applied P where weed biomass and crop residue had been incorporated into soil. Efforts should therefore be made to educate farmers on the advantages of retaining weed biomass and crop residue on their farms as they prepare land for subsequent crops.

PHYSICO CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF SOIL IN BABY CORN FIELD

ABSTRACT
The experiment was conducted to Influence of organic and bio-mulches on physico-
chemical properties of soil in baby corn cultivation field at Annamalai Nagar. The experiment
was laid out in a randomized block design with eight treatments in three replications.
According to the treatment schedule, mulching was practiced after 15 days of crop
germination. The mulch materials used were sugarcane trash at 10 cm thickness (12 t ha-1
),
coir pith at 2 cm thickness (10 t ha-1
). Sawdust 2 cm thickness (10 t ha'1
) and crop residues at
10 cm thickness (10 t ha-1
). For the bio-mulches, seeds of fenugreek and coriander were
sown and cuttings of mint were planted 20 DAS of main crop. Among the organic and bio
mulches were identified. The mulch materials used was sugarcane trash at 10 cm thickness
(12 t ha-1
) which recorded the maximum level of water holding capacity of soil, ph and
organic carbon of baby corn field.

INTRODUCTION
Baby corn is the dehusked maize ear, harvested within 2-3 days of silking, i.e. prior to
fertilization. It is a genotype of Zea mays L. Baby corn cultivation provides tremendous

avenues for diversification, value addition and revenue generation. After successful venture
in many South-East Asian countries, it is gaining fast popularity in Indian market too,
particularly in metropolitan cities. Good quality and higher green-fodder yield for its
cultivation adds enormously to total economic returns besides higher profit per unit area,
compared with green maize. Baby corn is used in a variety of traditional and continental
dishes besides being canned. It has high nutritive value comparable to many vegetables
Babycorn, being a relatively new introduction in our country requires the development of
suitable production technology in realizing higher yield and monetary returns before it could
be popularized among the growers. Depending on agro climatic conditions, 3-4 crops of baby
corn are taken in a year recording high returns.
Mulching is one of the ways for recycling the organic waste materials. Mulching is
not only an effective way to recycle organic waste material but also helps to minimize
evaporation of water, control weed infestation, reduce runoff and soil loss, increase soil
moisture status, control soil temperature fluctuation and improve physical, chemical and
biological properties of soil.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Investigation was carried out to assess the use of organic mulches in the cultivation of
baby corn at orchard, Department of Horticulture during 2001 and 2002. Investigation was
carried out to assess the use of organic and bio mulches in the cultivation of baby corn at
orchard, Department of Horticulture during 2001- 2002. The experiment was conducted with
four organic mulches viz., sugarcane trash mulch at 10 cm thickness, water hyacinth residue
at 5 cm thickness, sawdust at 2 cm thickness and coir pith at 2 cm thickness and cultivation of
three bio-mulches viz., coriander, mint and fenugreek which were treated viz., T0 -control, T1-
Dried water hyacinth at 10 cm thickness, T2-Sugarcane trash at 10 cm thickness, T3-coir pith
at 2 cm thickness T4-Sawdust at 2 cm thickness, T5-Mint was sown 20 DAS main crop T6-
coriander was sown 15 DAS main crop and T7-Fenugreek was sown 15 DAS main crop.
There were eight treatments replicated thrice in Randomized block design (RBD).
The experimental field was ploughed to a fine tilth. During last ploughing, basal dose
of 75 kg of N, 60 kg of P and 20 kg per hectare along with FYM incorporated and the field

was levelled. Irrigation channels and beds of size 4 x 3 m2
were formed. Seeds of CoBC-1
baby corn, obtained from Horticultural Research Station Bhavanisagar was used for
experimentation. The germination percentage was found to be 71-60. Hence, three seeds were
sown per hill leaving 60 cm between rows and 30 cm between plants. On the 25th
day, the
plants were top dressed with 75 kg of N and 25 kg K ha'1
and earthed up. Irrigation was done
at periodic intervals to maintain the plants healthy.

). For the bio-mulches, seeds of fenugreek and coriander were
sown and cuttings of mint were planted 20 DAS of main crop. The most important
component in baby corn production technology is the avoidance of pollination by the way of
detasselling. If the silk is pollinated, the kernels and the cobs become hard. Removal of
tassels or detasselling is known to improve the quality of young cob by directing the products
of photosynthesis away from growth and maintenance of the tassels. Hence, detasselling was
done.
Periodical harvest was done once in two days after 2 or 3 days of silking. The cobs were
removed one by one as a single plant is capable of yielding up to 3 cobs. The total duration of
harvest extended over a period of ten days. Cobs were stored at low temperature immediately
after harvest to prevent deterioration in quality. The observations were recorded and
subjected for statistical analysis (Panse and Sukhatme, 1967).
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
The highest value (24.6 per cent) for water holding capacity was recorded where the
treatments were imposed with bulky and concentrated organic manures. The lowest value for
water holding capacity was recorded in control (24.0 per cent) (Table.1). Regarding the
physico chemical properties, numerically higher values for organic carbon, water holding
capacity and lower values for Bulk density were registered under Sugarcane trash at 10 cm
thickness. But the values among all the treatments were statistically not significant since it

was tried for one season. If the practice is continued for few more years there must be a
change in the physico chemical properties. Application of mulches, irrespective of sources
and rates recorded significantly higher organic carbon and this might be due to increased
yield of roots and plant residues and external application of organic manures as reported by
Gupta, U.S. and R.K.Gupta. (1983) and Yadavet al., (2000). The differences in the organic
carbon content with the application of different sources of nutrients might be due to the result
of differential rate of oxidation of organic matter by microbes (Trehan, 1997). The decrease
in soil pH after organic matter addition might be because of the production of CO2 and
organic acids during decomposition of organic mulches. Consequently, if there is decrease in
soil pH directly it is related with increase in EC. This is in accordance with Shelkeet al.
(2001). The decreased bulk density might be due to incorporation of organic manures with
lower bulk density (Meerabai., 2001).
The soil physico-chemical properties of baby corn under different treatments imposed
with Sugarcane trash at 10 cm thickness followed by coir pith at 2 cm thickness are
recognized for valuable returns and were forwarded for further studies in baby corn
CONCLUSION
Among the treatments comprising organic and bio mulches under different treatments
imposed with Sugarcane trash at 10 cm thickness followed by coir pith at 2 cm thickness are
recognized values for water holding capacity of soil organic carbon and bulk density were
observed in the treatment combinations in baby corn cultivation field.
