When allegations against the Foxconn manufacturing plant—where Apple, Samsung, and Microsoft make large portions of their electronics—were first leveled in 2012, American consumers sure did seem angry. We were irate that their 1 million workers were grossly underpaid (or sometimes not paid at all), that 14-year-olds were making iPhones and Xboxes, and that the factory actually responded to people defenestrating themselves—seeking death rather than more work—by installing safety nets. As is so often the case, anger is all we could muster.
From IABUK: This book, compiled by the IAB Games Steering Group - a committee of senior gaming experts - is an introduction to the games advertising planning and buying process. Whether you’re looking to run your fi rst campaign using games or you’ve run many before, this book will help you engage with consumers using what has arguably already become the world’s most exciting entertainment medium.
The Edelman Cloverleaf forecast reflects our latest thinking on the digital information ecosystem and the convergence of content publishers and technology platforms.

Traditionally, businesses competed with others in the same industry, but now modern businesses

This report serves to show our customers what is going on beyond their traditional competitors.
This edition is packed with contributions from people across Endava and covers many industries. It contains really cool, innovative projects that span robotics, business intelligence,
security and payments. These projects are the cutting edge of the industry and we often use these as inspiration for clients who are embarking on a Digital Transformation programme.
Key Highlights:
#1 Google's new home personal assistant
#2 Fully interactive advertising
#3 Turn your hand into a touchscreen with this smartwatch
#4 A bank staffed by chat bots
#5 New business models through smart clothing
Session 1/8. Introduction. The Strategic Content Alliance, JISC sponsored workshops on Maximising Online Resource Effectiveness, held on different occasions throughout 2010 and delivered by Netskills.
Great design isn’t about beauty; it’s about knowing the right questions to ask, uncovering the right places to look, and agreeing on the right problems to solve.
At ThoughtWorks Live Australia 2016, Stephanie Rieger (Director of Design & Strategy at Yiibu) talked about three mindsets that combine design, business strategy, and technology to drive growth and embed experience design within your organisation.

The past, present, and future outlook of Mobility. This presentation tracks everything from the first transistor created in 1947, through the exabytes of data created every month.
Introduces the idea of "Just Enough Code" -- to add a 2- or 3-week module on Web coding into courses like editing, or design, or multimedia. There are 2 reasons to do this. One is to demystify how Web and mobile sites are made. The other is to open a door -- for (at least) some students -- to something they might really have an aptitude for, something they might really enjoy, if you just have a chance to explore it.
Multimedia Journalism Innovations in the ClassroomMindy McAdams
For a panel about "Innovation in Journalism Education": How teaching multimedia journalism has changed since 1999, and how I have adapted my classes and pushed my department to innovate. Journalism students don't have to be programmers, but they should have an opportunity to learn how to create new story forms for web and mobile platforms.

In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.
