When determining topic, looked to find a problem that technology could help Problems:  Many students are apprehensive about poetry.  They have difficulty connecting to poetry written by others. Solution: Creating an online complement to our face-to-face poetry unit to enhance instruction
Overall Goal:  Increase students’ understanding of how to find figurative language in poetry and how to analyze poems for meaning and purpose Technologies Used: Online Survey Google Videos Google Calendar Google Presentations Edublog All integrated through Google Sites
Consistent structure throughout the six tasks: Heading Due Date Description of task Goals and objectives My hope is to provide an easily navigated lesson that provides clear expectations for the students.
 
Goal 1: Build online presence through video Goal 2: Use Google Calendar as an easy, free way for students to stay on top of due dates
 
Survey Monkey will be used to identify  students’ attitudes and interests towards: Reading poetry Analyzing poetry Writing Poetry Results will be used to:  create groups throughout the unit  (differentiation) gauge the success of the unit once it has concluded

Google Presentations was used:  in Task 2 to create an online review of figures of speech. in Task 3 to build knowledge of how poets incorporate figurative language into their poetry to prepare students for an in-class assignment. Google Presentations vs. Microsoft PowerPoint:  Free and accessible way for all students with Internet connection to access content
