             Maintain a positive ATTITUDE during the job
             search
     1       Have a plan and work your plan one step at a time
     2       Identify and meet with an accountability partner
     3       Maintain balance: spiritual (quiet time), physical (workout), mental, emotional
     4       Get help you need on plan from Job Seekers Network (JSN) or other job club
     5       Share job activities with spouse / help others during your job search
     6       Reward yourself for success through the process
             GETTING STARTED by looking back to look forward
     7       Assess your financial situation and determine if your need a bridge job or full time job
     8       Have you accepted the loss of your job? Is it behind you?
     9       Decide on job position goal/target (do not move forward without this)
    10       If unclear, attend Career Transition small group at JSN or other assessment
    11       Identify job search barriers and develop strategies to overcome
             Develop 5-7 "success" stories / accomplishments (STAR - Situation faced, Task to
    12       accomplish, Actions your took, Results you achieved)
             Milestone: Before you move forward: Know what job you are looking for and have an accountability partner

ESSENTIALS

    12       Determine your unique attributes (your career brand) and develop your elevator pitch
             Develop draft copy of your Resume and Marketing Plan from the employer's

    14       Review resume(s) with accountability partner and a resume coach from a job club
    15       Set up LinkedIn profile and get to 75% complete
    16       Develop and practice answers to top 30 behavioral and regular interview questions
             Begin looking at TARGET COMPANIES
    17       List "top of mind" companies to work for

             Expand list via online search of postings, association database, Austin Business
    18       Journal Book of Lists, Chamber of Commerce and ReferenceUSA.com
             Prioritize target companies and determine hiring manager using Jigsaw.com and
    19       through networking
    20       Research TOP (Trends, Opptys, Problems) issues for each company
             Milestone before you move forward: A Job Seeker Network Coach has reviewed your Resume and Marketing Plan
NETWORKING AND INTERVIEWING
        NETWORKING (80% of time) to the Hiring Manager
        Identify list of networking roadblocks (fear of rejection/failure, insecuirty, pride,
   21   etc.) and determine strategy to deal with them
        Make list of existing network (family, friends, former peers and bosses,
   22   acquaintances) and prioritize them
   23   Determine what you can "give" or offer your networking contacts
   24   Make networking contact using Marketing Plan
   25     Face to Face with most important (goal 5 per week)
   26     Over the Phone
   27     Email with least important
   28   Regular email contact with support/prayer/network group (at least every two weeks)
   29   Get LinkedIn profile to 100% complete and join relevant LinkedIn Groups
   30   Expand networking and reach hiring managers of your target companies
   31   Tailor resume and cover letter with key words from the job posting and inside information
        Establish contact with inside contacts and request personal introduction to hiring
        manager or that they hand deliver resume and/or have employee act as a referral
   32   for you
        JOB POSTINGS / RECRUITERS/ JOB FAIRS (20%)
   33   Research, review & select online sites for job postings and register / subscribe
   34   Identify and contact your "niche" recruiters
   35   Research companies to be at and attend key job fairs
Nail the INTERVIEW
36   Research company including website and get insider information
37   Do mock interview and video tape if possible
38   Interview with Hiring manager
                    FOLLOW-UP AND ACCEPT JOB
39   Post interview evaluation and send thank you notes

     List ideal factors in a job (e.g. salary, benefits, travel, boss, culture, opportunity for
40   advancement, commute, etc.) and determine importance of each factor
41   Evaluate job offer with accountability partner against ideal factors and negotiate accordingly
