Q1. What do you understand by the term ‘Job-Satisfaction’? Discuss with reference
to the contribution this makes in understanding organizational behavior.
Job Satisfaction:
Job satisfaction is defined as the feeling of some achievement, success and a deed.
When employee is satisfied with his Job, he feels that everything is going fair
because he knows that whatever work or task is given to him is based on the skills,
knowledge, practice, expertise, and abilities which he has within him. Job
Satisfaction is when employees feel glad with their jobs and working environment.
Job satisfaction is the important factor which is very effective for the organization.
Understanding employee needs, wants and requirements can help in their work
efficiency. Job satisfaction affect employee performance and increase their
willingness to solve the problem that may occurin Job activities.
Job satisfaction is a positive feeling when employee is satisfied with his job level,
position and work whereas Job dissatisfaction is a negative feeling in which is not
satisfied with his work, position or salary package, lack appreciation from the
organization. Hence, results in increasing turnover making the organization’s
reputation negative.
Causes of Job Satisfaction
1. Stress-Free Environment:
Employees who are given more work load may lead to become aggressive,
lethargic, may cause them pain, fatigue, laziness. They work until they get
flattened. Here employee gets dissatisfied and he feels unfulfilled with his job.
Employees get satisfied when are made work in a free environment where they
have no fear if they are given chance to improve their mistakes.
2. Promotion
Promotion is another factor that makes the employee feel motivated and satisfied
because he knows that whatever he’s is performing will make him promote if he’s
doing good enough, putting all his efforts and adding value in his work by doing it
effectively.
For example: If an employee is given a task to make system generated transactions
on excel given limited time and he’s doing it before the time set by the manager by
using tools and techniques or formulae on excel. He deserves a promotion and if he
doesn’tget it, his satisfaction level may go down and employee turnover may
increase to high.
3. Social Learning:
In a working environment or organization people learn a lot by working in
groups and understanding every personpoint of view. They feel a sense of
connectivity when they get to work together and get used to the daily routine
of doing task with their colleagues, employees and workers. This results in
increasing the level of Job satisfaction of each employees and of course
there would be less chances of turnover.
4. Interesting work:
Employee love doing work in an environment where he finds his work interesting
and challenging. Manager should take care of the factor that he is assigning tasks
which makes the employees feel challenging and responsible becausein this way,
he/she will give his all efforts in doing the task which results in positive outcomes.
5. Bonuses and Rewards:
Employees should be provided with bonuses every month. In this way, they will
try to overcome their weak part in work and they will reduce their mistakes. This
will motivate the employee to work more in a better way so that he can be shifted
to a department where bonuses are given more as compared to the current
department.
For example: In Banks, bonuses are given according to Officer Grades(OG)where
employees’ motivation is bonus and they work hard to achieve to the position
which gives high bonuses and incentives.
6. Attentive leadership:
Employees like to treat with more attention and consideration. They expect their
managers to treat them with importance and with great leadership style according
to the culture, and environment of organization.
7. Further opportunities in Organization:
Employees get encourage when they see position which can lead him to next path
if he improves himself. Some organization provide trainings to their employees
and make them more skillful. This will lead the employees to move to next
position. In this way, organization itself and employee get positive outcomes.
8. Impact of employee personality on Job satisfaction:
A person who is negative no matter what job he gets, he will never value what he
is doing. He will always seek others work and position. A person or employee who
possesspositive attitude, will always find ways to work with efficiency even if he
doesn’thave a perfect job or position. He will always give positive outcomes to the
organization and is satisfied with his Job. Because he knows and he is confident
about what he’s is doing. He knows his worth and abilities.
9. Feedback:
Employee gets satisfaction, feeling of contentment when they get appreciation,
feedback from his/her manager or boss. Employees feel a sense of confidence
when they are assigned with a particular task because they know that they can do it
and their boss will be happy from their work and in return they would get a
feedback in terms of trust, motivations and encouragement.
How Job satisfaction is helping the organizations
Employees’ satisfaction is only reason that makes the organization bestin any way.
By making them happy and dedicated makes the organization best in the following
ways:
 Constancy:
When employee knows that his role is important in the organization and everyone
value his opinions and thought. He is more likely to concentrate on his mission and
objective of the organization. He/she is more likely to spread kind words about his
organization which effect goodwill and maintain good reputation of the
organization.
 Lower Turnover:
Satisfied employees are less like to leave the organization. Employee’s retention is
necessary in order to decrease the turnover rate. By appreciating your employee
work and encourage his creative work can actually help in reducing turnover rates
 Increased Profit:
Job satisfaction can actually decrease the recruitment costbecausewhen your
employees are satisfied, there are less chances of their turnover. Good organization
increase profit by making their employees satisfied by their job role, position and
rank they have given to their employees.
How Job satisfaction is related to the organizational behavior:
Factors
1. The first factor has effects the relationship between Job satisfaction and
Organizationalbehaviorwith Comparison Level:
The relationship between job satisfaction and organization commitment. For
example, if employee is completely committed to his work but he is given less pay.
This creates dissatisfaction and the relation between my commitment level and job
satisfaction is not balanced.
2. The second factor has effects the relationship between Job satisfaction and
Organizationalbehaviorwith AlternativeOption:
Alternative option defines as that the organization is good for an employee or he or
she deserves a better Job. This makes him think if he needs to shift or change the
job or not. Employee do not feel committed to his job. Because he is not satisfied
with amount of pay he is given with comparison to his work. This creates
disruptions, lack of interest and increased rate of employee turnover.
Conclusion:
In the end, I would conclude that employees who are satisfied with their jobs are
happier and contented. They give quality work, innovative and dedicated to their
jobs. Every individual should listen to his/her heart and mind when making
decisions for his career. To be very successfulpeople need to work in an
environment where he knows his worth and the work he is doing matches with his
skills, expertise, talents, qualification. He should know what is his job role or he is
satisfied with the work he is given.
