Over recent years there has been an increase in interest from executives and human resource departments in mindfulness. Most mindfulness professionals attribute this rapid rise in interest to the fact that through MRI’s, brain scans, and rigorously controlled meditation studies we have better science available to us which clearly demonstrates the benefits of mindfulness. From our perspective, the rise in interest is also a response to the fact that we are completely overwhelmed by our limitless access to information and non-stop expectations of connectivity.

This document discusses the differences between coaching and therapy. It provides definitions of coaching and therapy from various sources. The main difference identified is intention - the intention of a therapist is to heal problems from the past/present, while the intention of a coach is to facilitate learning and development towards future goals. There is some overlap when problems from the past impact present goals. Tools can be used for both coaching and therapy depending on intention and the individual's readiness. Comments from coaches and therapists provide their perspectives and experiences with both approaches.
Affirmation is a very powerful technique to empower one's subconscious. Once the subconscious is disciplined to believe one's affirmation, the latter is converted into a positive action for the conscious mind. Through affirmation, beings are empowered to do, to work, and to strive for more things. Affirmation allows people to believe in themselves and to put their thoughts into action.

Counselling as a method to understand your employeesJayadeva de Silva
Counseling can be used as a method to understand employees better. It allows people to discharge emotions in a healthy way rather than repressing feelings. When distressed, people need to talk through their issues with a good listener in order to re-evaluate the situation and think clearly again. Counseling helps contradict unhelpful patterns developed in childhood that prevent optimal functioning. For managers, counseling provides a developmental tool to address why talented people act less intelligently at times and to distinguish people from problematic patterns. It also explains why listening is so important and creates a safer environment for openness. Counseling should be introduced sensitively when enough trust and safety exist within an organization.
The document advertises an H2S2 workshop aimed at unleashing one's power within through transformative experiential learning. It was developed from ancient Chinese medicine and refined by psychologists in the 1970s-1980s. Mindfulness
Enhancing mental health in the law
As a litigation lawyer, I often
found myself over-engineering
courtroom scenarios in my head
and when things didn’t go to plan
it would retrospectively cause me
mental angst.
Many of my friends practising law are burnt
out and share these sentiments, with some
maintaining that whilst they may have the
resilience to adequately deal with stress in
the workplace, they are seeing an influx
of their colleagues taking stress leave and
suffering from anxiety and depression.
Recent studies show that one in five
Australian employees have taken time off
work due to feeling mentally unwell in the
past 12 months and that untreated mental
health conditions cost Australian workplaces
approximately $10.9 billion per year.1
What is mindfulness?
You can be forgiven for being a little flippant
when you hear the term mindfulness, as it
seems to be the ‘buzzword’ used by every
self-proclaimed personal development guru
out there. In essence though, mindfulness is
simply the psychological process of bringing
our complete and undivided attention to our
internal and external experiences, as they are
occurring in the present moment.
What are the benefits?
The benefits of practising mindfulness are
abundant. From a mental health perspective,
it is a simple, non-prescriptive measure
that can be used to alleviate stress, anxiety,
depression, chronic pain and addiction.
Generally speaking, practising mindfulness
vastly improves mental health and
performance in the course of our personal
and professional lives.
Where’s the evidence?
As a lawyer I insisted; show me the
evidence! So I did some research and
found that a technique known as functional
magnetic resonance imaging, used to detect
blood flow in the brain, confirms that when
people are practising mindfulness, only
the pre-frontal cortex becomes enlivened.
This is the part of the brain associated with
awareness, attention, control, concentration
and decision making.
With prolonged practice, mindfulness
increases neuroplasticity, which in turn
enhances mental agility and performance.
It is because of this scientific evidence –
transcending it from a mere ‘buzzword’ to
being a credible and powerful tool to enhance
mental health – that we now have a range
of successful CEOs, business professionals
and leading institutions utilising mindfulness
to enhance their performance.2
The question I then asked myself was:
“If these successful bodies and people are
using mindfulness to reduce stress and
enhance their performance, why aren’t I?”
How can I start
practising mindfulness?
Daily meditation
The most powerful tool we know that can
be used to practise mindfulness is meditation.
I’ve personally been meditating for ten years
now and don’t believe I’d be able to get
through my day without it. It anchors my being
to everything that is important in my life and
has taught me.
Would you like to possess the ability to give undivided attention on a particular task, goal, or pursuit until its completion? If your answer is "yes", then listen closely.

This document discusses self-management and different aspects of understanding oneself. It defines four ways of understanding oneself: assumed self, manifest self, objective self, and requisite self. It explains that there are often gaps between these different selves that can be minimized through habits like being proactive, beginning with the end in mind, putting first things first, thinking win-win, seeking first to understand then to be understood, synergizing, and sharpening the saw. Developing these habits can help align one's different selves and understand oneself more fully.

JMReid Group Mindfullness
1. Over recent years there has been an increase in interest from
executives and human resource departments in mindfulness.
Most mindfulness professionals attribute this rapid rise in
interest to the fact that through MRIs, brain scans and
rigorously controlled meditation studies, we have better science
available to us which clearly demonstrates the benefits of
mindfulness. From our perspective, the rise in interest is also a
response to the fact that we are completely overwhelmed by
our limitless access to information and non-stop expectations of
connectivity.
