CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
Attribution Theory:
Attribution theory, proposed by Fritz Heider, examines how individuals attribute
causes to their own behavior or the behavior of others. In the context of
dilatoriness and academic responsibility, this theory suggests that students may
attribute their dilatoriness to external factors (e.g., lack of resources, challenging
environment) or internal factors (e.g., low self-esteem, poor self-discipline). These
attributions can impact their perception of control and responsibility, affecting their
academic performance and commitment.
The theoretical framework outlined above incorporates various psychological
theories to understand the effect of dilatoriness on the academic responsibility of
Grade 11 HUMSS students in Lumangbayan National High School. By considering
social cognitive theory, self-determination theory, goal setting theory, cognitive
load theory, and attribution theory, educators and stakeholders can gain insights
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
Statement of the problem
This study attempts to examine the effect of dilatoriness to the academic responsibility of
Grade 11 HUMSS students in Lumangbayan National High School.
Specifically, it aims to answer the following questions:
1. What will be the effect of dilatoriness in the academic performance of each students?
2. How well do Grade 11 students know their academic responsibility as a students?
3. What output should be done to prevent dilatoriness as a Grade 11 students.?
Significance of the study
This study will be able to contribute research-based data knowledge for Grade 11 senior high school students
about their responsibility and their habit of dilatoriness as students of Lumangbayan National High School.
This study is deemed beneficial to the following:
Teachers. This research study will guide them to know the effect of dilatoriness on their students, so they can give
them some advice or suggestions and encouragement to their students.
Parents. This research study would also benefit parents, because they would inform their children about their
responsibilities as students. In this regard, they would be able to support their child in terms of Academic
responsibility and they can tell to their child their obligation as a student.
Students. This research study may be helpful to the students in their academics. And it will guide them to know their
responsibility in terms of academics. And it will help them to recognize their responsibility on their academics.
Future Researcher. This research study will help future researchers who are conducting the same cases or study. This
research can be used as a guide by other researchers who are investigating the same or related cases. This can
provide sufficient information for other researchers.
Research Design
This study used the descriptive method of researcher’s. The descriptive
method is a technique for gathering data by asking questions to
respondent’s vito ate thought to have desired information. A formal list
of self-nade questionnaires is prepared. Generally, a non- disguised
approach is used. The respondents are asked questions about their
demographic interests and opinions.
Research Locale
The target population of the study is the Grade 11 Humss students of
Lumangbayan National High School, whereas the Grade 11 Humss
student population has a population index of students. It is expected
that 34 of them will be respondents to this research project. They are
selected by a purposive sampling method that the researcher will
devise and ensure has the exact number that can sustain the entire
class.
Respondents of the study
Researchers will used Grade 11 HUMSS students in
Lumangbayan National Highschool, consists of 4 girls
and 6 boys. Those 10 students will be the
respondents of our research. The researchers choose
this section because they believed that they will get a
full support and participation from those students.
Research Instrument
The researchers devoted diligent time, effort and cooperation in developing their
questionnaire to serve its intended respondents. The survey was constructed using
appropriate questions modified from related research and individual questions
developed by the researchers. The survey consists of 10 questions. In the
questionnaire. After the professor approved the questionnaire, copies were
distributed to 34 respondents of grade 11 Humms students. Participants were given
time to respond and then the researchers collected the survey questionnaires in
the afternoon.
The data gathered from this research instrument were tallied and calculated for
interpretation according to the frequency of the items checked by the participants.
Along with primary data, the researchers also used secondary sources in the form
of published articles and literature to support the survey results.
Data Gathering Procedure
In order to gather sufficient information from the respondents with regards to their
experiences with procrastination, the researcher prepared a survey in the form of a
questionnaire. Since the researcher is also a student at Lumangbayan National Highschool
the questionnaire will be personally distributed to the respondents.
In other words, the researcher’s will approach the respondents through an interviewer –
based survey. This is to make sure that the respondents will give their full response and
cooperation in answering the questionnaire. There will be a request process for the
principals or advisers and even for the respondents before conducting the interview. This is
a great way to maintain the voluntariness of each respondents. Each respondents will be
given enough time to answer the questionnaire, and their answers will be subjective to
further analysis, interpretation and justification in order to craft the research findings and
conclusion.
Summary of findings
This chapter present the Summary and Conclusion derived in the conduct of the research which is to identify the
Effect of Dilatoriness to the Academic Responsibility of Grade 11 HUMMS Students in Lumangbayan National
High School.
A recent study was conducted to identify the Effect of Dilatoriness to the Academic Responsibility of Grade
11 HUMMS Students in Lumangbayan National High School. Every students have their own responsibility in their
academic, and they cant avoid their responsibility, especially when they are needed to work or do their activities
and performances. One of the problems faced by every students is dealing with their dilatoriness in doing
homework and their activitites in school. In addition, the responsibility of the srudents is being lost because of
dilatoriness, because of this, the researcher conducted research that helped the students know their
responsibility and their dilatoriness in their academics. This study aims to know the effects of dilatoriness in the
academic performance of each students, and how well do grade 11 students known their academic responsibility
as a student. This research has 10 respondents from Grade 11 HUMSS students. The researcher use descriptive
method and respondents asked question about their demographic interests and opinion. The researchers
randomly selected the respondents regardless of their background or academic performances.
This research was conducted to identify the effects of Dilatoriness to the Academic Responsibility
of Grade 11 HUMSS students in Lumangbayan National High School. The findings revealed that
some coomon reason why the students tend to postpone their tasks or assignment is because of
the laziness and because of the distraction by social media and online games. Students are
overwhelmed most of the time when they complete their tasks. And students are not more likely
procrastinate on certain types of tasks or responsibility because it will have a impact on their
grades. Furthermore the findings revealed that procrastination has negatively effected the
students productivity or achievement in the past. Students tried to overcome procrastination, and
their strategies to overcome the procratination are finished and pass their activities on time, and
they use time management to do their tasks. Some of students felt guilty after procrastinating
their task because they need to finish their task first before anything else that not important and
they are guilty because if they went to school they can’t understand the tasks and it can affect
their grades. Gadgets are the reason why they are distracted and delay their tasks they play
online games and distracted by the social media. Student motivated to address and overcome
their procrastination habit because of their dreams and goal that they want to achieve in the
future.
Conclusion
1. the study revealed that a significant number of Grade 11 HUMSS students at Lumangbayan National High
School tend to procrastinate on their academic tasks. This delay in completing assignments, projects, and
studying for exams leads to poor time management and increased stress levels. Consequently, students
experience a decline in their academic performance and struggle to meet the demands of their coursework.
2. the research highlighted that dilatoriness negatively affects students’ motivation and engagement with their
academic responsibilities. Procrastination often stems from feelings of anxiety, fear of failure, or lack of
interest in the subject matter. This lack of motivation hinders students’ ability to stay focused and dedicated
to their studies, resulting in subpar academic outcomes.
3. the study emphasized the importance of implementing effective strategies to combat dilatoriness among
Grade 11 HUMSS students. Time management skills, goal setting, and prioritization techniques emerged as
potential solutions to help students overcome procrastination. By providing students with the necessary tools
and support, such as study schedules and regular check-ins, educators can assist in cultivating a sense of
responsibility and accountability among students.
Recommendations
1. Create a Time Management Workshop:
Organize a time management workshop specifically tailored to Grade 11 HUMSS students. This workshop
should focus on techniques such as setting goals, prioritizing tasks, creating schedules, and avoiding
distractions. Provide practical examples and encourage students to apply these strategies to their daily
academic routines.
2. Involve Parents and Guardians:
Engage parents and guardians in the process of addressing dilatoriness. Conduct parent-teacher meetings
or send regular progress reportsto keep them informed about their child’s academic performance and any
concerns regarding dilatoriness. Encourage parents to reinforce the importance of timely completion of
tasks at home and support their child’s efforts to improve academic responsibility.
3. Foster a Supportive Learning Environment:
Create a positive and supportive classroom atmosphere where students feel comfortable seeking help and
collaborating with their peers. Encourage group discussions, study groups, and peer mentoring programs to
promote active engagement and accountability among students. By fostering a supportive environment,
students will be more motivated to stay on track and fulfill their academic responsibilities.
