James Gosling, born on May 19, 1955, is a Canadian computer scientist best known as the father of the Java programming language. He obtained his education from the University of Calgary and Carnegie Mellon University, and worked at IBM and Sun Microsystems before its acquisition by Oracle. Gosling has received numerous awards for his contributions to computer science, including the IEEE John von Neumann Medal and is the author of several influential books on Java.
