Lessons from James 1
Today’s objective: What we learn from James 1

and how it applies to us, as individual Christians.
James 1:1-11
 What

are trials and what purpose do they serve?
 Do we pray in faith, or do we doubt God’s abilities?
 Not understanding what God says/does and
doubting what God says/does are 2 different things.
 Christianity teaches us to be joyful under troubles
because such exercises are sent from God’s love.
Lessons from James 1
James 1:12-18
 We

demonstrate our love for Jesus by enduring
temptations, ultimately leading to a crown of life.
 Enticement to sin does not come from God and God
Himself is not enticed by sin.
 Sin does not force itself on the unwilling, but is
chosen because of its attractions.
 Adverse circumstances build godly character.
 God is unchanging in His nature.
Lessons from James 1
James 1:19-21
 In

the midst of a trial, the Christian is to be swift to
hear, slow to speak and slow to wrath.
 What kind of a response glorifies God?
 Instead of blaming God under our trials, let’s open
our ears and hearts to learn what He teaches us.
James 1:22-25
 Do

we only hear the Word of God, or do we hear it
and apply it?
 It is not talking, but walking, that will get us to
heaven.
Lessons from James 1
James 1:26-27
 Pure

and undefiled religion: What does it mean?
 We don’t get to live how we want and then complete
a few ceremonies to make everything OK.
 It is thinking, behaving and acting differently.
 If the only difference between us and someone else is
where we spend our Sundays, what good is that?
Romans 8:31: “If God is for us, who can be

against us?”
Take comfort and strength in that, my brethren.
