Sermon by Mike Smith
A short look at the words to this song and spiritual insights to help us sing with a better understanding. Let us go to the Rock of Ages.
Happy Mothers day, such an honor that you spending your morning with us today. I pray God has blessed you this year and in years to come. I also pray for those of you who have lost someone and today is a very difficult day. I pray that the God of all compassion speaks to you today and gives you the comfort only his holy spirit can give!
To those who gave birth this year to their first child—we celebrate with you
To those who lost a child this year – we mourn with you
To those who are in the trenches with little ones every day and wear the badge of food stains – we appreciate you
To those who experienced loss through miscarriage, failed adoptions, or running away—we mourn with you
To those who walk the hard path of infertility, fraught with pokes, prods, tears, and disappointment – we walk with you. Forgive us when we say foolish things. We don’t mean to make this harder than it is.
To those who are foster moms, mentor moms, teacher mom and spiritual moms – we need you
To those who have warm and close relationships with your children – we celebrate with you
To those who have disappointment, heart ache, and distance with your children – we sit with you
To those who lost their mothers – we grieve with you
To those who experienced abuse at the hands of your own mother – we acknowledge your experience and pain
To those who lived through driving tests, medical tests, and the overall testing of motherhood – we are better for having you in our midst
To those who are single and long to be married and mothering your own children – we mourn that life has not turned out the way you longed for it to be
To those who step-parent – we walk with you on these complex paths
To those who envisioned lavishing love on grandchildren -yet that dream is not to be, we grieve with you
To those who will have emptier nests in the upcoming year – we grieve and rejoice with you
To those who placed children up for adoption — we commend you for your selflessness and remember how you hold that child in your heart
And to those who are pregnant with new life, both expected and surprising –we anticipate with you
This Mother’s Day, we walk with you. Mothering is not for the faint of heart and we have real warriors in our midst. We remember you.
This Mothers we are going to focus, not so much on moms, but on how we are all called to Love like Jesus.
When the Apostle Paul was helping the young church in Thessalonica he compared his work among them to that of a mother caring for her children with love. On Mother’s Day as we consider God’s love, there are similarities between the love of a mother and of God to help us Love like Jesus.
Jeremiah is in prison, in a doomed city besieged by an army, and Jehovah tells him to buy a field. It doesn’t make sense, but Jeremiah obeys. Then asks God why. Jehovah’s answer reveals the reason that Jeremiah (and the people) should have hope. We can learn from this why we too should live as a people of hope.
Each day you make over 400 decisions; some out of habit and others by choice. How do those decisions effect the people around you?

Whether you purchased your auto insurance in California or any other state, in most cases, people are covered for such contingencies by their own insurance policies, if they have collision coverage, or by certain major credit cards. However, declining the extra insurance coverage doesn’t always mean you won’t be charged the additional fee that comes along with it.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

The Hope of Salvation - Jude 1:24-25 - MessageCole Hartman
Jude gives us hope at the end of a dark letter. In a dark world like today, we need the light of Christ to shine brighter and brighter. Jude shows us where to fix our focus so we can be filled with God's goodness and glory. Join us to explore this incredible passage.
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

2. A Look at James 3
Objective: What we learn in James 3 about the
tongue, wisdom and a teacher’s expectations.
Keep in mind: James is talking about the
individual’s behavior. But your conduct will have
effects on your family, the church, etc.
James 3:1-12
A
stern warning for teachers.
Are we to get out of the teaching business?
The seriousness that comes with teaching the Bible.
3. A Look at James 3
James 3:1-12 (continued)
How
a small member of our body can have such a
positive—or negative—impact.
We can’t tame our tongue by ourselves.
Inconsistency in blessing God while cursing people
who are created in His image.
Mixing the speech of blessing and cursing will only
produce negative results.
How many sins would be prevented, if we would
always be consistent?
4. A Look at James 3
James 3:13-18
The
solution: Seek divine wisdom.
God is not the author of confusion. He brings
harmony and peace (I Cor. 14:33).
Evil produces confusion and corrupts relationships.
How are we known? By our works.
How dangerous is the tongue?
Prov.
6:16-19: A lying tongue is an abomination to
the Lord.
Eph. 4:29: High standards of speech for a
Christian.
5. A Look at James 3
Hateful tongue: Jeremiah 9:2-5.
Boasting tongue: Luke 18:9-14.
Impetuous tongue: James 1:19; Prov. 17:28.
Obscure tongue: Eph. 6:14.
Critical tongue: Prov. 17:10.
Double-tongued: I Tim. 3:8.
Explosive tongue: James 3:8; Psalm 50:16.
Does your tongue reflect the expectations of the
world, or does it reflect the light of Christ?
