A Fraction Is...... A number that shows a part of a whole The two parts of a fraction. The denominator and the numerator The denominator represents how many numbers are there. And the numerator represents how many we have out of the total 1/4, one fourths, one out of four
Conversions To change a faction to a decimal you........ divide your denominator into the numerator Add a decimal point and zeros until you have no remainder Example: 1/2 = 2 1.0
Adding/ subtracting fractions Fractions with like denominators When you add a fraction that has denominators that are the same you add the numerator. If your denominator is 8 and your numerator adds up to be 12 it would be 1 and ½. Fractions with unlike denominators To subtract unlike fractions you look at the denominators and find the LCM Than turn it into the LCM and multiply the numerator by how many times the denominator went up And then you subtract.
Mixed numbers Adding To add a mixed number you look at the denominators and find the LCM. Once you have found it you add up the numerator with the other numerator And after that you have the answer Subtracting By subtracting it is almost the same as adding but it is different. First you find the LCM Than you subtract the numerators and you have the answer
Multiplying/dividing fractions Multiply To multiply you find the LCM and multiply the numerator with the other numerator And multiply the denominators Then you have the answer Divide To divide you do almost the same but you have to do the same as the left but you need to divide the fractions
