The digital transformation of CPG and manufacturingCloudera, Inc.
Both CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) and manufacturing industries face similar challenges: in order to differentiate and innovate, they need to draw insight from the one thing they both have in abundance - data. The source of the data may be different; the opportunity is always innovation and differentiation. For CPG, forever changing buyer expectations must flow into product development and sales. For both CPG and manufacturing, Industry 4.0 promises improved efficiency, lower costs, and higher revenues. Becoming data-driven is the key for both industries and requires clever combination of machine learning, analytics and cloud for success.
In this webinar, business strategist Frank Vullers will discuss how Cloudera's platform is central to this century’s industrial revolution: the digital transformation of the CPG and manufacturing industries.

Top 10 Logistics Risks in the Spirit of David LettermanThomas Tanel
The simple fact is that in today’s longer, more global supply chains, product moves over greater distances and across more multinational borders than in the more localized supply chains of the past. The coordination and execution required for international shipments has always been a challenge. But now we find that market conditions, security considerations, transportation versus inventory costs of ownership, increasing regulatory and political pressures, and even natural events (such as storms and earthquakes) with increasing frequency and havoc are converging in such a way that it makes the task even more daunting.
Proactive discovery and visibility of logistics risks is the key to the prevention and management of supply chain disruptions. And a key ingredient in managing supply chain disruptions is risk identification; so attend this valuable presentation to find out what the Top 10 Logistics Risks are (in the spirit of David Letterman) that you will be facing in the coming years. Donald Rumsfeld, former US Secretary of Defense quipped in 2002, “Reports that say that something hasn’t happened are always interesting to me, because, as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns-—-the ones we don’t know we don’t know.”
General Gus Pagonis, in charge of logistics during the First Gulf War in 1991 describes it best in his own words, “Logisticians deal with unknowns. They attempt to eliminate unknowns, one by one, until they are confident that they have done away with the possibility of paralyzing surprises.” Are you equipped to succeed in a supply chain world of increasing difficulty and insecurity and multiple interconnected supply chains? Do you have the correct response to a supply disruption in the supply chain and the attendant Top 10 Logistics Risks?
Why is logistics risk management in the supply chain so important now? You’ve spent years streamlining operations, reengineering processes, integrating with partners, implementing purchasing, contract management and supply chain systems, and moving production to low-cost, offshore locations. You’ve done all of this in order to get a global supply chain that really works. Finally, you can take a deserved rest, right? Unfortunately, the answer is no-—-you must learn to continuously adapt to a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous logistics environment!
As noted by Charles Darwin, “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, or the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.”

Your enterprise can digitally transform by gaining insights from your data to improve the experience for your customers.
Enterprises need to make over all aspects of their business, because today’s customers expect frictionless experiences — and because new competitors launched with the latest technologies can change and respond to customers faster than mature companies.
Start with the fact that your enterprise has valuable assets that start-ups don’t — your customers. Fostering loyalty among these customers requires improving their interaction with not only your products and services, but also sales, billing, support and shipping operations. Successful companies count on digital technologies to transform the total customer experience. As consumers, we’ve come to expect digitally enabled products as the new normal. But what’s the next step for your enterprise? Find ways to translate into their business lives what people love and expect as consumers.
Enterprises can learn from the digital leaders who look for ways that apps and data can be added to products to create new value over time. Digital leaders use what they learn from the data to reshape core operations to drive the enterprise forward. What’s considered a core operation varies from industry to industry, but the common characteristic is that core operations make up a sizable portion of the enterprise budget. Gaining even a modest amount of efficiency through digital transformation can significantly impact the bottom line. Data also can be used to predict mechanical failure and to schedule preventive maintenance to avoid business disruptions.
Digital transformation begins with data. So how can your enterprise gain insights from your data to improve the experience for your customers?

The environment of physical energy and non-energy commodity trading and marketing has grown increasingly complex, marked by globalization bringing about rapid changes in supply and demand patterns, increased regulatory scrutiny and evolving trading and reporting rules, volatility along the entirety of the physical supply chain, and increasing uncertainty as to future price movements. In order to react to these changes quickly and appropriately, participants in these markets must increasingly rely on a sophisticated infrastructure of software and technologies to ensure a complete view of their trading positions and external market conditions that can quickly and severely impact their values. The core component of these now requisite trading and marketing technologies are energy and commodity trading and risk management (CTRM) systems. As market complexity has increased and multi-commodity trading has become more common, CTRM solutions have had to become more sophisticated and provide a greater depth of capability in order to capture and value the unique characteristics of the multitude of physical commodities being transacted along the physical supply chain, from source to market. Given the capabilities of these CTRM systems, they do represent a significant investment for any trading or marketing organization, generally trailing only the large scale ERP solutions, like SAP, in terms of costs to purchase and implement. Allegro Development, one of the world’s largest CTRM solutions providers, engaged Commodity Technology Advisory to conduct a survey of a number of their clients to determine their views as to the value of their investment and the operational and financial impacts of deploying Allegro’s CTRM solution. This report summarizes the results of that survey and discusses the key considerations for any company seeking to develop their own assessment of the value of their CTRM technology investment via a Return on Investment (ROI) calculation.

Need for Speed: Removing speed bumps from your Symfony projects ⚡️Łukasz Chruściel
No one wants their application to drag like a car stuck in the slow lane! Yet it’s all too common to encounter bumpy, pothole-filled solutions that slow the speed of any application. Symfony apps are not an exception.
In this talk, I will take you for a spin around the performance racetrack. We’ll explore common pitfalls - those hidden potholes on your application that can cause unexpected slowdowns. Learn how to spot these performance bumps early, and more importantly, how to navigate around them to keep your application running at top speed.
We will focus in particular on tuning your engine at the application level, making the right adjustments to ensure that your system responds like a well-oiled, high-performance race car.
We describe the deployment and use of Globus Compute for remote computation. This content is aimed at researchers who wish to compute on remote resources using a unified programming interface, as well as system administrators who will deploy and operate Globus Compute services on their research computing infrastructure.
First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.
Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.
Globus Compute wth IRI Workflows - GlobusWorld 2024Globus
As part of the DOE Integrated Research Infrastructure (IRI) program, NERSC at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and ALCF at Argonne National Lab are working closely with General Atomics on accelerating the computing requirements of the DIII-D experiment. As part of the work the team is investigating ways to speedup the time to solution for many different parts of the DIII-D workflow including how they run jobs on HPC systems. One of these routes is looking at Globus Compute as a way to replace the current method for managing tasks and we describe a brief proof of concept showing how Globus Compute could help to schedule jobs and be a tool to connect compute at different facilities.

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.

Source-to-Contract / The Upstream
JAGGAER ONE’s Source-to-Contract solution set encompasses sourcing and
vendor management processes for identifying spend patterns, finding and
qualifying active and potential suppliers, negotiating business terms that deliver
the best value (i.e. lowest price, most compliance, outstanding performance and
consistent deliverability), codifying those business terms in supplier contracts,
and managing supplier performance across the organization.
JAGGAER ONE Source-to-Contract consists of the following solutions:
Spend Analytics
With JAGGAER ONE you do not need to waste time manually looking through
your data for patterns, gaps, and inconsistencies. It is all automated by the
JAGGAER ONE Spend Analytics solution, which transforms your data into
a powerhouse of information and insight. Data visualization supports better
sourcing and supplier decisions. For example: do you have too many suppliers?
Do you really know which suppliers you are spending the most with?
Are your top suppliers compliant with your organizational standards and
relevant regulations?
Category Management
Category managers want to focus their time and conduct in-depth market
analysis to fully leverage their procurement strategy on behalf of the entire
organization. JAGGAER ONE Category Management ensures that purchasers
need never lose sight of the big picture and its global execution. The module
manages category strategies, actions and workflows based on category-based
algorithms and all relevant KPIs. It makes all supplier development activities
visible to all stakeholders for complete transparency.

Supplier Management
Collecting supplier information, completing the initial approval or vetting steps,
and on-boarding suppliers are the start of a successful supplier management
program. The JAGGAER Supplier Management solution provides a central
repository to collect and assess supplier information and documentation,
helps you make informed strategic decisions about which suppliers best support
your goals, and gives you visibility into supplier performance and development
activities with real-time data and analysis.
Sourcing
A robust sourcing solution helps you create events, manage and evaluate
supplier responses, and award contracts more efficiently. JAGGAER ONE takes
this a step further, typically cutting routine bidding cycle time in half compared
with traditional paper-based bid processes. It enables you to identify the right
suppliers to support your business goals and puts you on the path towards
greater efficiency and savings. JAGGAER ONE gives you a 360˚ view of price
and non-price information to make the best possible decision for your category.
And only JAGGAER provides the capabilities to manage almost any sourcing
process, from three bids and a buy to fulfill requisitions, eRFX and eAuction
for contract negotiations, sourcing optimization for complex sourcing decisions,
or BOM-based sourcing events for direct materials.
Contracts
Contracts enables you to manage every phase of contract development from
initiation through approval and execution. In JAGGAER ONE it is a complete
end-to-end solution that provides full authoring and automated review and
approval workflows to reduce risk and increase compliance. It also provides
the ability to manage the entire contract lifecycle, including automated alerts
for renewals, expirations and other milestones.
“The decision to trust JAGGAER to support our e-sourcing process is one of
the better ones we’ve made. The results, which we saw almost immediately,
have been remarkable.”

Procure-to-Pay / The Downstream
The ultimate goal of JAGGAER ONE Procure-to-Pay is to simplify the way buyers
purchase goods and services from contracted suppliers. Adoption, efficiency,
and ease-of-use are critical in reducing maverick spending and putting you in
a better negotiating position in the future. But so too is safeguarding compliance
and mitigating risks.
JAGGAER ONE Procure-to-Pay consists of the following solutions:
eProcurement
JAGGAER ONE eProcurement provides a configurable, guided buying solution
that gives buyers a modern, convenient online shopping experience, helping
your procurement team to drive your organizational spend towards your
preferred, strategically contracted suppliers. With managed supplier catalogs,
purchase request forms for unique buying situations, and contract-based
procurement, maverick purchases are reduced to the minimum, cutting costs,
saving on admin and strengthening your position for future contract negotiations.
Invoicing
According to the Aberdeen Group, the cost of each invoice can be as high
as $35 and processing it can take up to 38 days. Best-in-class accounts
payable organizations have reduced these costs to $3 or less by leveraging the
JAGGAER ONE Invoicing solution. It automates all of your AP tasks – collecting,
submitting, matching (2- and 3-way) and approving supplier invoices (digital
and paper-based) – giving you full visibility into organizational spending.

with auto-replenishment, increase fill rates and raise team productivity.
Specialized inventory items, such as chemicals and laboratory supplies,
