The Jacquard loom, invented by Joseph-Marie Jacquard in 1804, is a mechanical loom that enables the weaving of intricate designs using punch cards. Jacquard's innovation was influenced by the earlier Vaucanson loom, and his work laid the groundwork for later computer technologies. Today, modern Jacquard looms are computer-controlled and can produce complex patterns with thousands of hooks.
