Changing Perceptions: Reconceptualizing Museums’ Training Programs for Season...West Muse
Museum educators have a variety of roles and duties, and may fill volunteer, part-time, full-time, seasonal, or permanent positions. These educators often come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, including teacher education, museum studies, the museum's content specialty, and the performing arts. With all the different background educators come from, museums must develop training that helps these educators offer engaging, entertaining, and high-quality programming. To meet this end, museum educators require training in the museum's content and pedagogical and educational practices to facilitate learning and enjoyment for the wide variety of visitors that come to museums. The literature on training museum educators is limited, but research on seasonal museum educators is particularly sparse. This study aimed to address this gap.

Value Our Education, Value Our Future: Transforming Mathematics Education
2nd National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mathematics Conference
An OER-based degree, sometimes referred to as a Zero-Textbook-Cost degree, is a pathway to a degree or credential with no textbook costs because all the courses have been redesigned to use open educational resources (OER) for instructional materials. These pathways are gaining traction particularly at community colleges where students savings are estimated at up to 25 % of the cost of attendance. Early research shows students enrolled in these pathway courses are performing as well or better than students in traditional courses.
In June, the national community college reform network Achieving the Dream (ATD) announced the largest initiative of its kind to develop degree programs using high quality open educational resources (OER). Involving 38 community colleges in 13 states, it is designed to help remove financial roadblocks that can derail students’ progress and to spur other changes in teaching and learning and course design that will increase the likelihood of degree and certificate completion.
Join us for an interactive webinar to hear about early considerations such as fostering faculty engagement and planning tools successfully utilised by participants of the ATD OER Degree program. Find out more about how your college’s OER efforts can benefit from the findings and resources being developed by this program.
When: Wednesday, October 19, 10amPST/1pmEST Featured Speakers:
Richard Sebastian, Director of OER Degrees, Achieving the Dream (ATD)
Jennifer Nohai-Seaman, Assistant Professor Mathematics, Housatonic Community College, CT
Wm Preston Davis, Director of Instruction, Extended Learning Institute, Northern Virginia Community College
Quill West, OER Project Manager, Pierce College District, WA
Opening More Doors: Keys to Successful Faculty-Led Study Abroad for Graduate ...CIEE
This session will provide a model for building a successful graduate-level study abroad program, give session participants the tools to build a viable, sustainable study abroad program for graduate students, and aid and inspire session participants to do so. Panelists include three colleagues who have collaborated to build successful credit-bearing graduate-level study abroad programs, as well as a non-traditional student who participated in a study abroad program. During this session, we'll cover budgeting, recruitment, course credits, course delivery, program activities, coursework, logistics, accommodating non-traditional students, faculty pay and course load, and program assessment and sustainability.
The presentation delivered by prof. Marika kapanadze, TEMPUS SALiS project Coordinator at the International Scientific Conference organized by the Institute of Educational Sciences from Moldova, November 2-3, 2012.
