Digitalization and trends toward a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) world require a new organizational culture. In the old world, problems were simple or complicated and could be solved through analysis, but complex problems in the new world can only be addressed through experimentation. The shift requires moving from a focus on efficiency through command and control to effectiveness and agility through self-organizing networks and iterative processes. Agile methods are well-suited to address complex problems with unclear causes and effects. Adapting to this new paradigm necessitates changing from optimizing existing processes to disrupting them through customer-focused innovation.
